Authors, what method do you use to determine the post you respond to? The best idea, democracy, what?

I usually try to do everything the posters suggest, or make a compromise. If it's a major decision I might try steering it the right direction by having the protagonist argue, but if the arguement of the suggester is too convincing I just go with that and let disaster happen.

When it involves a vote (Location, upgrades, et cetera), I usually allow the democratic method.

When it involves a character's choice, the character's personality has some perspective and choice in the matter depending on the severity of the action compared to their personality.

When it comes to puzzles that aren't completely binary, or small sample of answers, instead of going with the voting system, I notify who got it right, and advance the game. I think it's dumb to ignore right answers to a puzzle because the popular choice was wrong. That makes the people who were right think they were also wrong and lessens the chances they will attempt the answer even if it was correct.

Generally, "whatever has the most votes, plus anything that's not mutually exclusive with whatever has the most votes."

But I reserve the right to have my characters second-guess /quest/ if the suggestions are nonsensical or obviously poor ideas.

What fits best into the storyline as long as there is a decent number of players supporting the descision.

I am not a very good quest author but when I ran a quest I tried to blend together as much as I could.

Usually, I go by whatever the quest protagonist would think is a good idea. But I'll also admit to sometimes picking suggestions that I think would advance the quest in the direction that would be most fun.

Strict Majority.

Actually, I lied. I include all non-exclusive suggestions, and use strict majority when appropriate.

It depends on the theme of the quest, doesn't it? Not that I have a dozen (un)finished quests under my belt, but for something serious democracy and "use as much as possible."

For something where the consequences are less important, pick the one that makes the best story. Most of the time, that will be the one that provides the most comedy.

I carve each suggestion into a block of lard, then leave them in the garden to be attacked by the multitudinous forces of nature. Whichever one is last left legible by OCR software is the winner. Because "this"'d suggestions get more lard blocks the process is biased toward being democratic without being an outright tyranny of the majority.

I select the action that sounds most like what the character would do. In the event of multiple such actions, I pick whatever has the most votes, or whatever sounds most fun to draw/write about.

This is the most hardcore suggestion selection method ever.

I consult the bones to determine the good suggestions.
I keep a witch doctor in my bathroom for that. He's mexican.
If he's sleeping inside the washing machine I try to look at the overall direction the suggesters want the quest to go, incorporate a few appropriate ones into an update. Sometimes I hold votes.
