Is this quest even popular enough for a discussion thread?

Whatever. DISCUSSION THREAD GOGOGO!

Never heard of him, so I can't say.

But what I can say is that he doesn't think of himself as a good looking guy.

So are there no known non-human techmages because none of the aliens can use magic, or because they use magic in an extremely different way? (Either way, are they able to use magical items?)

Magic is basically Humanity's shortcut to space travel, but the other races discovered how to break the light barrier and safely move through space without it. So, magic is a purely human discovery. There are no non-human techmages because the tech that allows magic to work for humans doesn't work for non-humans. I have yet to think of a reason for this.

Does this answer your question, or did I end up confusing you?

I think that answers the question of who can use magic. (There is still the part about whether non-mages can use magic items such as seerstones.)

So do techmages control magic using mainly through advanced mental training, or do they use cybernetic implants (like in Mass Effect)?

It's assumed that if you can't use magic, then you can't use items like seerstones and such. But then, no aliens have ever tried using them.

Actually, Techmages have access to magic through a device they wear on their belt called a "reality breaker." This device automatically channels magical energy into the spells they cast. The knowledge on how to cast those spells is completely theirs, but without a reality breaker, it would take a lifetime of training for anyone using magic to have a power equal to that of the average Techmage apprentice.

Also note, that the only magic items that aliens HAVE tried to use are reality breakers, to no avail.

I think I might be leading you guys a bit, and it might seem like you gs have no say in solving the puzzles. I'm sorry if this is the case, I'm still new at this.

I like what you're doing so far, but I'd like it if you gave more clearly defined personality and preferences to the main character. What's his back story? Why did he join the guild? Actually, I suppose I can ask him that myself, but you get my point, yeah?

I hope my earlier post developed the character enough. Thanks for the feedback.

So, guys. Help me improve the quest.

What did I do well in chapter 1? What can I improve on? What do you think you'd like to see?
>>
No. 40514 ID: 44766a

I would like to see his face.

He won't show his face until he's comfortable enough having a Seerstone floating around him. He said so himself. "I think I'm fuck-ugly, so I use this illusion to make myself more intimidating."

Hm, I think a bit more detail on the area's at time might help a bit, I've been following for a while and some of the area's you describe at time are a bit sparse at times.

>>350341

That's reasonable, but there's nothing stopping you asking about more detail. After all, I didn't see even one question about the mines or the camp.

>Also also, I see greatness in you. You should set your ambitions very high. What are the most prestigious positions in the Technomage Guild? How do politics work in your time?

Oops. I prematurely ended Chapter 1 before answering this. But this is something that should be answered here.

The highest and most prestigious position in the guild is Grandmaster, the leader of the mages' guild. The Grandmaster dictates how the guild runs, what policies should be set, and basically runs it like the C.E.O of a corporation. He holds no political power, but he has the entire finances of the Guild at his disposal.

Another prestigious position is guildmaster. If the guild were considered an army, then the guildmasters are the generals, or feudal lords. There are currently five "factions," guildmasters whose followers do what they can in the name of increasing their guildmaster's prestige. If one of, say, Guildmaster Lot's followers garners a lot of good press, it looks good for Guildmaster Lot himself.

There's also Guild Lords, who are basically politicians in the Confederation who are members of the guild. Being a Guild Lord has the benefits of;
1. Priority given to any jobs you need done
2. Free protection from assassins and terrorists, and
3. Full private investigations into any crimes committed against you.

Guild Lords are basically the same as Guildmasters, except they have to balance their political careers with their guild relations. It isn't an easy job.
