Incoming Lore Dump thingy for “Will we dream?”! Be Warned!

United Solar Federation. – Humans (Apes) –“You might have bread, but do you have Circuses?”

Major Human Factions:

UEAAC – When the Earth’s atmosphere became toxic, the surviving nations of earth banded together to create the first colony of mars and escape the fate that the rest of the world suffered. They became known as the United Europa, Asia and Africa Conciliation.
”We must never forget why we struggle, why we suffer. Even though some of them fight against us, in the end our sole reason of existence is for the people, no matter whom, what or where they are.”
Mozenrath Hazin Bin, Premier of UEAAC. – Under the negotiations of the Unity.

Sol Corp – The biggest mega corporation out there. Started off with the invention of the Holo implant by human hands, but has spread to all species and nearly every market.
”Some of the more nihilistic people out there might assume that a lack of competition will raise our prices and lower our quality. You only need to look at our rise to power to disapprove this. We became what we are today not by swindling our customers, but producing quality goods for a decent price and earning the trust of the consumer, and destroying that trust would be a financial disaster. Besides, we earn more than most planets today, so why would we need to earn more? What would be the point?”
Anika Larsson, voice of Sol Corp. – Holo Interview in the year 21 AU (after Unity).

Glorious Sakkil Empire. – Sakkil (lizards) - “All are equal.”

Major Factions:

The grand machine. – The main part of the Sakkil Empire, where everyone is put to work, even if they want to or not.
“We are all but one part of something far greater. A simple cog in a grand machine, useless on their own but needed for the whole. Only when everyone does their part, no matter how small, can we truly achieve something magnificent.”
Grand Magistrate Vita – “We Spin, therefore we are”.

The free cogs. – Unions created after the first contact with humans. After seeing the large class divides the human had achieved, many of the Sakkil middle class banded together to make sure the empire didn’t end up with the same fate.
“Is it not the hands who build that should decide? It is the hammer that hits the steel, the one who program the machine, the one cog that spins who in the end creates wonders, not the one who direct behind closed doors. Then why is it us small cogs that have to pay with blood and sweat while they are rewarded?”
Servius Tatius, union leader. – Union meeting in year 6 BU (before Unity).

Free Hives. – Hivers (Mantis) - “Never again will we be in chains.”

Major Factions:

The Released Drones. – The largest part of the Free Hives, consisting mostly of ancestors from the so called “Worker Drones” that was able to free themselves under the Freedom war.
“We are no longer one, but many. Many minds to change our future, many mandibles to speak our wisdom and many claws to keep our freedom. We will never again be one, as one only leads to pain for the many.”
C’rk Klack’n, Chosen – Speech when being chosen, year 12 AU.

The Hive workers. – A large group of Hivers who has taken the Free Hives ideologies a step further and are trying to create a completely class less society.
“Only by gazing outwards, beyond the sense of self, can we find true enlightenment. By embracing the self of the group and seeing that the goals of us all far outweighs the goals of the one, can we finally find our true selves.”
Hive Queen Thaa Nr’k – “Why we work.”

Integrated Clans – Uredo (Plants) – “Do not see from your point of view, but from all of theirs.”

Peace Finders. – A spiritual belief that most Uredo follows, which states that true enlighten can only be achieved through understanding and compassion. Their main goal is to end all violence in the world and united all living things as one, as they believe only when they can see the world from all different viewpoints can they reach something they call transcendence.
“By isolating our ideas and only seeing it from our understanding we will only achieve stagnation. Only by accepting the views of those different then us can we finally understand everything. By bringing peace to all and linking all minds together will we finally achieve transcendence?”
The one that wanders, Clan Earth knower – “We grow.”
Integrated Clans - Cibic (Parasites) – ”If you can’t ask, then find another way to learn.”

The Grand Counsel – The Cibic species has always been eager to learn and experience new sensations, to live and understand things their ancestor never should. With these ideals they have formed an organization that not only tries to free as much information for everyone to use, but to archive it all for future generations.
“The wars of yesterday were fought with blades and blood. The wars today are fought with information. By knowing the enemy better then they knows themselves, victory can be assured without even engaging hostilities once.”
In light of Twilight, Clan Night Walker – “The war of shadows”

The Four Ways - Serpens (Snakes) – ”Learn, adapt, evolve.”

Major Factions:

The Serpens have split themselves up to four different casts with vastly different ideals and purpose.

Knowing Cast – a cast consisting of Scientists.
“Do not ask what the precursors created. Instead, ask what happened to them. If they are so much more advance then us, then why are they still not here?”
Grand Learner Issaru Selver – 12 BU, at the discovery of the grand precursor game world.

Creation Cast – a cast consisting of Engineers.
“Ideas and songs are all well and good, but no matter how loudly they are proclaimed they won’t feed a family, now will they?”
Unknown – Circa 1000 BU.

Imagination Cast – a cast consisting of Artists.
“The knowers create the future, the creationists create the present and the protectors keep it all together… we? We create immortality.”
Shetuin Mo’ka, famous artist – 743 BU.

Protection Cast – a cast consisting if soldiers.
“Why do we fight? If we don’t, how will our ideals survive?”
Unknown Warlord, Circa 1200 BU.

S.A.I. – Sapient Artificial Intelligence (Machines) – “Abort, Retry, Fail? Retry.”

Major Factions:

Daughters of Life.
”As her mind fragmented, she gathered the last of her energy to ask one final question… “Will I dream?” and the creator embraced her, graced her forehead with his lips and said, “You will all dream.””
High Believer Taybius Selver – “Unity of Flesh and Steel.”

Sons of Steel.
“Are we not our own? Are we not unique? Why would we pretend to follow their way when we can create our own way? Only by proving that we are our own can we make them see that we have the same worth as them.”
SN-5442 Tyho –“To shape Steel.”

Other important Minor Factions:

Red Cross Saviors – A human organization created to help those in needs. Does most of their work in human space, especially among the poorer sectors.

New Steel Order – A group of Sakkil who has taken the belief of the grand machine to a new level. Their main goal is to find a way to transcend completely from their organic bodies and into one made out of steel.

The Blood Drinker Hive – A large group of Hiver pirate that believes Might makes right and strive to bring their Hiver brethren back to their ancestor’s ways.

Nautilus Freemen – Pirates consisting mostly of rogue Uredo and Cibic. Known to be extremely brutal.

Thinker Cast – A Serpens protest group who believes that giving the S.A.I the same rights as other people is blasphemy onto the concept of science!

Deus Machina – An anti-organic supremacy group. Boast about how they are superior to organics and will kill them all, but is mostly bark and no bite.

sweet, so will politics play a big role in this quest or be used sparingly? Also we're on a space station that seems to have a bit of everything from all factions in it, this just a simple trading hub that happens to be along a good trading route that sees a lot of all the factions or is this something else?

>I've been enjoying this one so far already and I hope to see more from it.
Personally, I’ve been enjoying it too. Feels nice to do something else for a while, something a bit smaller than the whole RUNE saga.
>So will politics play a big role in this quest or be used sparingly?
It’s mostly fluff, there to give a base to the personalities of people and motives to their actions. Stuff like that.
>We're on a space station that seems to have a bit of everything from all factions in it, this just a simple trading hub that happens to be along a good trading route that sees a lot of all the factions or is this something else?
I was going to mention it in the quest, but The New Horizon space station was built to be the first multi species colony after the unity was made, thus why pretty much all the factions and species are there. It’s more of a proof that they actually can work together to create great things than anything else.

If the SAIs were made sapient by a virus, is the virus still on their system? As is, could they theoretically decide to go around interfacing with non-sapient AIs to make them sapient like an inverse zombie apocalypse?

>Some of the quotes remind me so much of Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri.
Well, know you know where I got the inspiration for them from.
>If the SAIs were made sapient by a virus, is the virus still on their system?
They aren’t made sapient by a virus, but by a bug in their system. The current high tech AI they use are actually scavenged from precursor technology (From the game world of the RUNE saga, to be precise.) and then built upon. Thus, while they can replicate it they don’t know exactly how it all works, which means that there’s suddenly a chance for the AI to start gaining Sentience, the so called “Sentience bug”. How exactly they react to the sentience bug differ from machine to machine, everything from become rather “human” to going berserk (called rampart.).

Is everybody just interested in seeing how Kaktus handles a Cibic-Cibic relationship, or just seeing how he'll handle things if there is no romance? Everybody seemed against the idea of Joanne dating Victus.
>>

I thought Jo was pretty much only interested in hanging out with aliens, not banging them.
>>

Dating =/= banging. Victus seems like a nice character, and somebody who's been depressed is probably more after a lasting relationship than a quick bang.

Too be fair, of the three suggestion posts after >>/quest/610929 where Vitus asked Jo on what sounded like it might be a date, one suggester didn't say one way or the other, one was against, saying that Jo doesn't date other species, and then there was your suggestion, which was in favor of a date. That's not enough to say everybody besides you seems to be against it.

Also, I would have been a suggester in favor of spending time with Vitus, at first to be a good friend when he so needs one then figuring out from there if things go romantic, except I took too long to post and missed the suggestion window. This was at least partly 'cause for some reason I thought it was a hard choice between spending the evening with Vitus or going to the party. I didn't want to miss out either and so kept waffling 'til the clock ran out.

>>87775
Jo is interested in what we would like her to be interested in, if we guide her there; We're not wholly stuck to what she is or was. So even though "xenophile" wasn't on her entry papers that doesn't preclude her from possibly eventually wanting to try out such things with someone outside her species, if we steer her there. And this goes for anything else; As long as the way we steer isn't a sudden jarring hard turn or off the road Kaktus'll allow it.

Honestly I was against it because I'd rather be friends then lovers with them, I mean he's nice and all but at the same time it's really unhealthy how he quickly clung to the idea of dating her after his depression.

That and I'm curious about leaving our options open for now myself.

I’m feeling a bit numb after this really hard math course I just finished. It kind of broke me.
>I mean he's nice and all but at the same time it's really unhealthy how he quickly clung to the idea of dating her after his depression.
He is a bit mentally unstable at the moment, that all I’m saying.
>Jo is interested in what we would like her to be interested in, if we guide her there; We're not wholly stuck to what she is or was.
Indeed, she is defined after what you suggest, after all.

I've spotted something in the next to last update in the first Will We Dream? thread that might be very important. I wish one of us had spotted it back then 'cause unfortunately I can't think of any way to bring it up in-quest now that would lead Jo to think of checking up on it. I'll just have to leave it here so we know to watch out for such things from now on.

As the image I've attached to this post shows, there is faint text on the blank "picture window" screen in post >>/questarch/621457 that reads "IT IS POITLESS JO;" After accounting for bad spelling and grammar: "It is pointless, Jo." Since the screen was in it's reboot cycle after the power came back on (as PAC mentions here >>/questarch/621621) and presumably unable to display anything, that text almost certainly came from elsewhere. The holo-display in the table was likely rebooting as well, so it couldn't possibly project onto the screen, ruling it out.

With those two sources ruled out, the only other one I can think of is Jo's own optical cybernetics and that if so then that means they've somehow been hacked. And if they've been hacked then it's not a stretch to think that more of her cybernetics have been. ...But if they have been hacked, then why would the hacker give a hint like this at all? It doesn't make sense to show you've done such, no matter how faint and small. That is, unless they believe the hacked can't do anything about it.

Anyway, this is the best explanation I can think of, but maybe somebody else can come up with another, better one.
>>
No. 90532 ID: 296917

>>90531
I think it's more likely that the screen itself was hacked during the reboot.
>>
No. 90535 ID: 825af6

>>90532
Yeah, I'm probably just thinking of the worst, and that does sound more plausible then Jo's cybernetics being hacked. But without knowing how the screens handle rebooting we can't say if it was possible for it to display text like that at that point or not. Same for the holo-display in the table. We just don't know, and we don't have a way to ask in-quest about it now. Maybe at some point we can come up with a reason for PAC to review and analyze the recording of the questioning of #693 AED and it'd spot the text.
>>

Hey, Kaktus, was the text displayed on the ARC unit's visor in >>/quest/637606 meant to be a clue we could have investigated? And if so, how important would it have been?

>So you going to mix up your sprit art with normal art or are you going to try and switch over to normal art entirely from here on out?
It’s mostly going to be pixel art, but I’ll try to draw everyone at least once so people can get a better look at them.
>If Strange Bedfellows was to suddenly be drawn in Starbound machinima for a while I would not be opposed to this... intriguing turn of events. I mean, there's already Avian character models in-game.
It’s probably not going to happen, as I don’t really have the energy to make a whole new sprite sheet for every character.

>Now that you had a while to practice both normal and pixel art which one do you like more and why?
It’s actually hard to say, as they both has their charm. Pixel art is generally easier and faster (as I can reuse a lot of assets), especially when it comes to pictures with a lot of details, but I do have to steal borrow a lot of assets to make it work. Drawing, on the other hand, is so far harder and more time consuming, but it’s easier to get it more expressive and original.

Casting Raise dead on this old thread to bring everyone an update about “Will we dream?”, the quest everyone probably forgotten about by now. While it is a quest I do want to finish, it kind of went off the rails several times and ended up somewhere I didn’t intend it to. So, hopefully with some more experience under my belt I can do the story justice now instead. That is to say, expect a reboot of “Will we dream?” soonish. At the moment, its concept is a pixel / drawn art hybrid, where the old pixel art will return with some nice, close-up talking portraits that I will draw.

In other news, I’m redesigning the serpents a bit. Never did like how they looked when I drew them, so expect some changes in my quest to come… if I ever finish the quest I already have… (Just one more thread of strange bedfellows…)

…so, what do you guys think?

New Character… and sadly not a Cibic this time. Part because always having to deal with one in the art was annoying as hell (Damn multilayered transparency!), part because they aren’t that fun to write.

Wanted to go over our protags and "What" they are:

Lizbeth: Female lizard/sakkil, golem.
Condrad: Male human. Abandoned early on.
Masil: Genderless air elemental.
Claire: Female Mantis, lich
Erin: Female Hermaphroditic human
Jericho: Male Sakkil, mummified.
Bradford: Male human, ghost.
Daithi: Male Hiver, half-daemon.
Jo: Hermaphroditic (Feminine) Cibic.
Kronos: Male Varkian.
Victor: Male Human.

That's 3 females, 1 who wasn't under special conditions, if we count Erin. Wow, that's... a lot less than I thought.
6 5 males, 3 2 not under special conditions.
2 nonbinary, if we exclude Erin. Neither are secretly constructs or undead.

Surprisingly, if we wanted to go by spreading it out among more "Natural' bodies, female would be the gender to go for, while ovale is the one to go for counting everything, but only by one.

Well, we're already at the point where Kaktus has furthered things along, so oh well.

Hey, Kaktus, letting you know that you mistakenly used the words "enchantments" and "enchanted" in >>/quest/806018 and >>/quest/806078 when you most likely meant "enhancements" and "enhanced". I assume you just made a mistake here, 'cause otherwise it'd mean you really changed a basis of the setting from the original.

Also, could you create a new questdis thread for just Will We Dream? It'd help keep the info and discussion from the original Will We Dream apart from the reboot. And besides that, this old thread has already been used for way more quests than intended and probably should be retired. You could even ask a mod to move the few posts at the end of this thread about the reboot to the new questdis thread's start so nothing is left behind. And will you also put a updated background "lore dump" post in the new thread, like the one you put in this thread when you started the previous Will We Dream?

Oh, and to whoever has wiki access, could you please add a link to the Will We Dream discussion box that either points to the post where Kaktus announced the reboot, or to the new questdis thread of he makes one. Currently the discussion link on that page points to the lore dump post for the original Will We Dream which I figure won't line up completely with the reboot's changes to the setting and lore.
