People were asking on IRC, so I guess I'll post here for everyone that isn't on IRC.

>What's the deal with your update schedule?

Long story short: I'm trying to update about once a week.

Long story long: I still have the headache, it's because my neck is messed up, and I'm seeing a massage therapist and a chiropractor about it.

So, because headache and neck pain, it basically hurts to do anything that isn't lying down in a dark, silent room with my eyes closed, and even that hurts a bit. It's not like, horrible pain or anything, but it's enough that it is difficult to focus on things for very long or get motivated.

And for double the fun, painkillers are doing fuckall. Even the doctor prescribed ones. It's like I have the worst superpower or something.

Anyways, drawing and updating and stuff isn't any worse pain-wise than sitting at the computer and playing games or whatever, but it does take significantly more time and effort. I am hella slow at drawing. Like, several hours at minimum for an update, and even longer now that I frequently have to take breaks from sitting to just lie down and let things stop hurting for a bit.

And real life shit is taking up way more time than it normally does for the exact same reasons, and sometimes I just lie down and check the fuck out for several hours, so it's hard to find time to update.

All that said, I still enjoy running Forsaken, and I would like to update it more often than I do, but real life is getting in the way of that.

So yeah, I'm trying to update about once a week.

Pain that doesn't go away with normal pain medications, is helped by massage, and is centered around the neck makes me think of nerve pain. (I was thinking fibromyalgia until I remembered that you took codeine. It's apparently really good with that)

(also sorry that my only comments here before were about your name, I thought I wrote something else before; I really like your general art style)

Sure, more health updates, why not.

I had an a full blood workup and an mri maybe a week ago, and it was all normal, so I don't have like, tumors or anything.

So with that done, I'm back to massage therapy and chiropractor, and also acupuncture.

To be honest, I'm not entirely sold on the legitness of acupuncture, but my doc recommended it and studies have shown that it works a lot of the time so why the fuck not.

I had my first appointment today, it was pretty weird.

In addition to that I'm now on prescribed medication number four. Or maybe five? Basically, me and my doc are trying a bunch of different shit that works through different mechanisms instead of just getting stronger shit and calling it a day. That said, my last set of pills included tylenol-3, which (according to threeP) is pretty lame as far as painkillers go, but it's still the kind of stuff they generally give to people coming out of surgery.

Anyways, this latest stuff is called lyrica, it is for neuropathic pain, and apparently it one of the lamest drugs that still has potential for abuse and dependence. I'm not too worried about that though, because it is doing fuckall for me, much like the other pills before it.

>>75262
>Go see a neurologist
I am lined up to get an appointment with one at some point in the future.

>Go see an endocrinologist
I am not sure how that'd help.

>>75265
>is helped by massage
The massages hurt like a bitch and weren't/aren't improving my headache, which is why I'm trying all this other shit. They were/are apparently seeing improvement in the tightness of my neck, but I've felt pretty much the same in spite of that.

>I really like your general art style
Thank you.

>acupuncture
It's clap-your-hands-if-you-believe therapy. The Placebo Effect can do wonders for low level pain and discomfort through stimulating the brain into releasing painkillers, so it's in the class of "if it works, then it works". You're essentially tricking your brain into thinking that it's having an effect so well that it actually has an effect.
If the Acupuncture doesn't work, then you can try the various other 'alternative' therapies (Reiki et al) until you find something that's basically comfortable for you to lie down and relax for an hour or so. Massage would normally be the go-to, but you've already tried that.

Acupuncture can work well, if done right. You can use those needles to block blood vessels, affecting the circulation and reducing swelling. You can also put pressure on nerves for various paralytic and stimulatory effects. There's also the simple fact that damaging tissue can stimulate it to start healing. The needles are supposedly painless though, so I doubt it's taking advantage of the trick that when you bang your knee it makes your headache hurt less.

The reason it seems hokey is the theory behind it has the wrong basis. When azns figured out acupuncture by trial and error they guessed there must be some kind of something flowing through the body, and there must be a something making things hurt more or less, and just sort of called all that chi and stopped asking questions, since they didn't have the scientific method.

A good acupuncturist will discard the notions of chi or chakras, and instead learn about blood flow, circulation and nerve clusters. We figured out that it's actually blood and nerves thanks to science, but a lot of acupuncturers are still stuck in the past. As with any ancient technique. Leeches for instance are still medically useful, and awesome at reducing swelling in fact, but if you ever hear a medical practitioner talk about using them to extract the Black Bile, you run very fast and very far away.

Or at least that's what I've heard.

Unfortunately, the 'blood vessels and nerve clusters' explanation isn't much better than the 'energy flows and chakras' one. Reducing blood flow actually encourages swelling (though reduces redness, making swellings appear less visible), and nerves do not 'cluster' outside of the CNS. You won't be prodding any nerve clusters unless you're inserting needles into the spinal column or brain. Pressure also has minimal effect on transmission of action potentials, though prolonged pressure on an area may prevent diffusion of neurotransmitters, this is not significant outside of the CNS.
>>
No. 75307 ID: c23ab0

>>75306

I've got a funny bone that says nerves do cluster outside the spinal cord. And yes, increasing blood flow is good for *healing* which reduces swelling in the long term. But if you never wanted to reduce blood flow you'd never use ice packs, which is not a thing that we do.

Well regardless of what's causing it, there are some things that acupuncture can do that are verifiable as not being due to the placebo effect. A great deal of what acupuncture is used for in eastern medicine is pretty much bullshit, but there ARE some things that it can be legitimately used for. I forget what those things are offhand though.

I am alive. I still have a headache. No drugs have worked. The only remaining drug options are like, full on addictive "you will need rehab" drugs, so I'm holding off on that for the moment. Acupuncture was a complete and painful failure; I generally left appointments feeling worse than when I got there. I am still going to massage, which helps with my neck and back a bit.

I am not getting better, but I've hit a point where I'm not getting worse either.

Basically, I have a constant headache in my forehead and temples that never goes away, I am very photophobic, which is to say, it hurts to be in brightly lit rooms. And by brightly lit I mean standard indoor lighting. The power light on my monitor hurts to look at. I wear sunglasses indoors a lot. And lastly, the muscles in my neck, upper back, and shoulders are all basically perpetually tense, stiff, and slightly sore.

I have appointments for a neurologist and a different chiropractor lined up for mid-December.

So, yeah, while everything sucks and nobody knows what's wrong with me, I am probably not dying.

Go down the list, eliminating the ones that don't match your symptoms? Keep in mind that it's possible to have more than one condition at once, so given symptoms may be related to a secondary, or complication, condition. That list is probably not exhaustive either.

I personally know that migraines in particular tend to have pretty damned severe photophobia and continuous headache symptoms until correctly diagnosed and treated (usually with particular drugs), but be careful not to jump to any conclusions.

Could magnets be used to fasten things "through" the wing membranes without hurting them?
>>
No. 78030 ID: 2f4b71

>>78029
Probably not. If you place a strong magnet on either side of your earlobe, the pressure will cause a loss of circulation and eventual cell-death. Keep this up, and the magnets will eventually meet each other after necrotising their way through your ear. I suspect this would simply occur a lot faster for a thin wing membrane.

A strong magnet, but what about a weak one? They'd pop off more easily, but then you could use lots of small ones, similar to a row of buttons. No one spot of the wing would be too bothered, especially if there's a layer of cloth between the magnets as well.

Here's an idea for how a backpack thing could work. You could also use a similar idea for anchoring other things. Text is a bit small, sorry.

There's a number of tweaks you could do, like anchoring the backpack at the bottom as well as the top, and/or giving it a frame to stabilize it against the back to keep it from flopping side to side. The cables could be stretchy (in places?) to allow you to still bend forward. Also, it might be hard to reach on the back (depending on racial flexibility), so it might make more sense on the front. Might make more sense there from a flying standpoint, too.

I considered having it just latch around the neck, but that sounds...hazardous.

Nice touch with the pokéthong.

>>78019
This one is pretty good, actually!

We obviously need some kind of backback or book bag to carry things. The challenge is you can't really throw straps over those shoulders (wings in the way) and if you use some climb of clasp or latch it has to be easy to undo with doubled over feet close to your body. (Or tongue).

...maybe a fanny pack would be easier? Or sidesaddle packs / bookbags / book-holsters or something.
>>
No. 78052 ID: 2f4b71

I think a backpack, no matter how convoluted the attachment is, is out simply because she would have no way of ever reaching it with her tongue or feet. Saddlebags and thigh-bags would be more accessible.

>>
No. 78115 ID: fb4e93

>>78052
Eh, I think it depends on
A) How it was constructed and positioned, and more importantly:
B) How flexible she is.

I mean, consider that she can put on a hat with her feet, so she can totally reach that high. If you had the backpack on the front, it would probably be more accessible than one on the back, and you could give it a zipper down the front or something if it was still too difficult. I suppose, alternately, you could also have, like, large bags kinda draped around the waist. (But we need somewhere to store all the sweet loot we shall surely acquire! NEVER DROP ANYTHING.)

Oh, one other mode of use for a backpack is that you just CARRY it on you - you take it off to put stuff in it, which actually kinda makes sense, anyway.
>>
No. 78116 ID: fb4e93

Come to think of it, actually - how often DO you actually try to get stuff into or out of a backpack while wearing it? It's kinda a pain.
>>
No. 78117 ID: fd6ae9

>But we need somewhere to store all the sweet loot we shall surely acquire!
Immediately, there's the problem that carrying stack of books with one foot, or bound by your tongue, is going to be awkward or unfeasible. She needs a way to store them.

Hey, what about book straps? Those would be pretty simple, and all we need is a belt or something to attach them to.
