Redundant organ systems. Every part of their body is a non-vital. Go for the hearts ... the ten or so of them. Some can take headshots from rifles without flinching and then murder the fucker who shot them.

I'm fairly sure they only have the two lungs in the normal places. They can't hold their breath with holes in their lungs. Also, decapitation is still more or less a guaranteed win if you're not a neumono, since you just eliminated four out of five senses they could use to locate you. Also they can't breathe and are bleeding heavily.

>What's like herding Tozols for 40 years?

More like fifty years, career wise. Twenty if just this planet. It's been a rough pair of decades, I gotta say.

It's actually pretty rewarding. I mean that. Nobody's happy to be stranded, but I feel like I've made a big difference keeping everyone's health and spirits up, to maintain combat effectiveness. Frustrating, but I took it as a challenge. The first year was pretty rough. The nutrient shortage sank morale, and Rinis and Kaselir had more friction than an angle grinder, but we're pretty good now.

I think the squad should attrit down to zero without embarrassing ourselves.

I hope we did a good job raising Baj. There aren't a lot of us, and we were busy, and we didn't have the kind of resources for training and soldierization like a real colony. Sometimes I think the kid delved too deep into non-tozol media. Thinks he has superpowers or something.

That guy? I probably should just kill him, he's a massive useless piece of shit overall.

>Who has actually played strip poker at least once in their life? Did you win or lose? None of that game nonsense we have here, I mean in your backstory or between quest chapters or post quest if your quest is done.
Once with my female associate. We both won.

>Hey. Am I the only one who wants to shoot that person in the forehead?
No. I feel like that too. Although shooting is not hardcore as I'd prefer. "Brutally annihilate, viciously vaporize, fucking murderize."
And not just restrict that to one person, no, no! Free obliterations for everyone!

Well I mean yes I have met girls and guys. And I've met people in the way you mean, I mean. But I mean I'm a gnoll we don't exactly go to a church to swear vows of loyalty to each other.

And uh other than doing stuff with guys I'm not really that kinky.

>So then, what was it that drew you away from all that and to the stars in the first place?
If we are content, then we do not often seek to gain more. When we are given a taste of a more comfortable life, our standards for being content do rise, so we did seek out alien methods when it occurred to us it was possible to create Yich farms. Which was not easy to us.

Furthermore, as options grew, some did at least get curious about taking an orbital flight around the planet. In short, we did not leap on technology like we were starving for it, but we were not so traditional as to oppose it, either. Our growth across the galaxy has been slow, as a result, as our numbers on the asteroid would indicate.

>What sort of things are your people good at?
Multitasking.

>They do have multiple arms. Are those good for multitasking or do they require too much concentration to use all at once?
We can move them individually. We are capable of splitting our conscious to a degree, and so, for instance, can process multiple data entry tables at once.

>That makes me wonder, are there any species of aliens that salikai feel more affinity to compared to others?
'Affinity' is a rather subjective word in this case. We are naturally heavily selective amongst our own species, although we can hardly afford to be these days. We do not feel particularly close to any alien species. Some might think that we would feel a kinship towards Yich Eaters and how ostracized they are often treated while being sapient. This is an absurd thought born from people who believe all things that are different from their perceived baseline are the same.

There are, of course, shreds of common ground that species have with us, but this is grounds for kinship as much as neumono and salikai being friends because they shared a homeworld.

>Or maybe you even prefer AIs to biological races?
Perhaps in theory, I may. I would have liked to see the belenos' at their peak. As it is, AI is so rudimentary in thought, I may as well befriend the weather.

>I am curious about salikai sexual tastes.
Physically speaking, shapes are important. Being large or small is not important, either in whole body size or in particular traits. The shape of a female's tail bulb with the correct curves, or the symmetry in leg and clasper size, along with the particular broadness or narrowness of our colorations. I, for instance, am rather unfortunate to have a couple pairs of claspers that seem to have stunted growth. While young salikai can often be caught talking amongst each other in great lengths about the acute or obtuse angles of someone's neutral clasper stance, nearby aliens can also be caught falling asleep from what seems like an anatomical discussion.

While we are not about prominence in most areas, skin can be different. We can have exceptionally saturated skin with glaring contrast in our diamond stripes. Mating with someone with a miscolored series of diamonds is considered a great accomplishment, I believe because it shows signs of their capabilities to survive in the wild while being a beacon of light to a hungry predator. Nonetheless, survivability is as much attractive, and so some tastes prefer desaturation. Nonetheless, our skin does often pale with age.

The sound of the voice also is a factor, yes. People have described our voice as not being raspy, but as though having periodic kicks in our voice, as though it is laid over with static. It is not raspy or rough to us, rather, we consider those 'kicks' in steady intervals to be a smooth and steady voice, while one with variance to be gruff. Tastes in this seem to have no evolutionary basis as far as I can tell.

Thank you, I really wouldn't mind if either of you two did, but I'm trying to save it for Polo.

Also, you would have to do more than just shoot me in the head, I mean unless it was a rocket launcher or something like that it wouldn't do much. I think the scientist with the crazy eye has the right idea here, unless miss, uh, the tozol just wanted to shoot me and that's it. In which case everyone has the right idea.

> Go for the hearts ... the ten or so of them.
I think if you took out 5 then I would be done. Maybe 6. I think the real Rokoa would be fine with only 3 or 4 left, but I'm actually a lot bigger than I'm supposed to be, so my hearts need to do a lot more work. I mean even then, our blood can hold a lot of oxygen at once, so that would be a slow death for me. Well, I would collapse from exhaustion pretty fast if I'm running around a bunch, so you should make sure I do that.

>I'm fairly sure they only have the two lungs in the normal places. They can't hold their breath with holes in their lungs.
Well, I guess not? I mean again, we can go a long time without drawing in air, so even if we drowned in our blood, we could keep going at least for awhile.

>Also, decapitation is still more or less a guaranteed win if you're not a neumono, since you just eliminated four out of five senses they could use to locate you.
Yes this is good, I wouldn't fall from that but I would just end up flailing around trying to find the opponent, so if they could manage to decapitate me when I had a head, they could probably bisect me when I don't.

I mean really I just have to take a lot of internal damage, and that's tough because of my armor. If you took that away, though, then unloading a machine gun around my body would probably be okay. I'm very squishy, I've noticed.

>Hypothetical Nozol: What is your name, who created you and how are you feeling today?

Sniper Clone, or whoever else would know best... we know that Rokoa (and derivatives) are unusually large neumono, enough that some people think it must be unnatural, but we've seen others near her size and her mother was also about the same, so it must be normal genetics, yes? She's of a naturally large breed. I assume she represents the upscale of what's naturally possible. Which makes me wonder how far a random mutation or hormone problem could push.

But that's not my question. My question is, who are the smallest neumono? The average height is something like four feet across the whole species, right? Rokoa is about 6 feet and a bit or something, we'll assume 6 feet for her race, so that's a swing of +50%, heightwise. Body mass wise it's even more, because square cube law. Factoring in that neumono are a little heavier than humans, then it is not unreasonable, for the sake of easy calculation, to say a 4 foot tall neumono could weight about 40kg. So, if that's increased to 6 feet, rather than an increase of 20kg, it goes up by 45kg to 85kg. So while Rokoa's race is 150% taller, it's more accurate to say they're 212.5% larger. If I've done my math right. Which is quite possibly not.

I am terrible at math, but I think the opposite of a "half again" is "two thirds", and the opposite of slightly more than double should be slightly less than half. So the smallest race of neumono, if the swing goes equally far in the other direction, should average two and two thirds feet high, fully grown. Exceptional but still normal individuals could go down to about two and a half feet. That's leaving out mutants and hormone problems, again, or the possibility of a closely related race of pygmy neumonids, like humans had once, before they all died.

So is there a hive of 2 foot 8 inch neumono around? And, while I'm asking, who was or is the smallest adult neumono on record?

No. No this is not normal genetics. I deal with nothing but gigantic people.

Snow hive average is closer to five feet, anyway.

Most of my hive are hardly inches above me, many below me, and that is standard for jungle and archipelago biome neumono.

Marra is freakishly tall because if she wasn't, she'd probably be dead from getting hit with the ammunition she must have gotten hit with to be called a war hero. Giant is freakishly huge because the salikai have forced her to eat growth inducing food and lots of it. Rikora and Rokoa are freakishly tall because they are freaks.

My impression of other neumono has lately been skewed, because most small neumono have turned into civilians, while the big hives continue to practice war either because they are good at it, or because they are sought out. Size does play a big role in survivability. Hence, the average height of a soldier neumono is significantly higher over a civilian.

>No. No this is not normal genetics.

But Polo, it can't have been empathy effects, because Rikora and Rokoa grew up under different conditions. It can't be a hormonal problem because then there would be all sorts of side effects, and Rokoa's memories of her half-siblings showed them all as roughly the same height as her so it's almost certain there's some sort of hereditary link! Rikora was actually a little taller than Rokoa back then, but that was only as much as being Queen could have added. Besides, Pilon isn't that much smaller than Rokoa. And Katzati isn't that much smaller than that!

Your planet was only explored recently, right? It probably hasn't even been explored entirely yet! Is it really so outrageous that there are neumono populations who are outside the expected range, simply because the people who formulated those expectations hadn't encountered them yet?

Also, you didn't really answer as to whether there are any really small neumono. Though, if there were, they'd probably be most used to hiding, and would probably live in underground cave systems, deep jungles or remote islands... Sorry, I just started imagining a gullivers-travels thing with Rokoa for a moment. Anyway, they would be culturally averse to showing themselves. Are there any myths or legends or anything about little people?

You're forgetting Rokoa spent some time growing up with her mother. It's possible the size expectation got ingrained in her empathy from that early period. Or it's possible that her father's hive expected her to be as big as Rikora, so she was.

Any neumono:
How do the majority of neumono fall in love? Is it a combination of empathy, personality and physical traits? Are any of them more prominent?
What about jammer city neumono? And are interspecies relationships more common among jammer city neumono, due to being used to the lack of empathy?

Polo: Once this is all over, you should make some brain darts using your own gray matter. You can keep a few with you at all times in case you ever need to make a few quick new allies. After all, you seem to always get into situations where you're almost entirely on your own.

...the creation of said darts has been described as nothing short of horrific and seriously traumatic (and disabling too, since they have to rip out deep tissue), darts, once established, have a lifespan of hours, it takes days for a clone to take over, and to say nothing of the fact the memory battle and personality destruction is incredibly painful, traumatic, and an abhorrent violation. And the results of a dart implantation are unpredictable and diverse.

In short, they'd make an extremely impractical infiltration mission tool to use or produce, even before you consider the moral horror of a war crime they represent.

Ultraking Az! Big red guy! Will you tell us about yourself?

What does the "ultraking" title mean, exactly? You mentioned "other ultras", so I assume it doesn't mean you're high chief overlord of the whole kit and caboodle. So, what, is it like an official recognition thing? Once a hive is in the ultrahive for long enough to be trusted, their king or queen gets promoted and gets a particular job and some authority outside their own personal hive? What if they don't have a ruler-type neumono? I assume you are an actual king as well as ultraking.

How do ultraives make their collective decisions? How many hives are in your ultrahive? Are any of those hives related to each other? I assume at least some of them are geographically close, but I mean, are any of them offshot hives of each other? Would you say ultrahives are effectively equivalent to nations? Would that make you equivalent to chief of the military in your ultrahive, or are you one of several military chiefs? Do you divide your military according to hives or do you try to mix them together? What are you going to call it when several ultrahives ally with each other?

Did your ultrahive worry about revealing Polo's existence and abilities to the public, much less the more limited reveal that she was still alive, considering that you are clearly going to try to train more like her and her abilities are particularly tailored to fighting other neumono? Wouldn't it cause diplomatic trouble, or is the state of affairs on the homeworld such that all the ultrahives still expect other neumono to be their most likely enemies, and taking such advantages is expected? Also, what do you think about this business with predators being tamed?

What's your personal hive like? How long is it since they modernized? Were you around before that happened? Are you pretty gender-equal in your hive, or have you gone against type by becoming as powerful as you are? Do you have any kids? Any wives/husbands/girlfriends/boyfriends/consorts/concubines/bedbuddies? On that subject, you being a military man, and soldiers being linked with this sort of thing historically in many species, what's prostitution like among neumono? I mean I know as a species you're more casual so it's less likely you need to pay someone to get off at all, but maybe people who are really good at it could still sell a particularly satisfying experience? Does it have the kind of social stigma it does in other species, or do you generally just think that someone with a skillset should be able to get money about it and don't think it's a big deal, or what?

Finally - do you put "ultraking" on all your stationary? Maybe have it on a plaque outside your door? I would.

>Another question, if you had to choose between dying right now, and living under the Salikai for another few years, let's say 5, which would you choose?
I'm holding out to fight Polo, and I'd wait years to do so. But if I didn't think I could fight Polo ever, I'd prefer dying than spending another day under the salikai.

>Have you ever tried to ah... take your own life?
I thought about it, but the bugs would stop me, and all I'd do is hurt myself. And, well, trying to order the arkots or piss off the voklits or sneak into the grottle labs or fufa quarantines haven't really worked out.

>How similiar or different biologically are predators to neumono? Since they have the same kind of empathic link I'd imagine their internal biology is similiar.
Well, not really! We branched off of one another a very long time ago from something with rudimentary empathy capabilities, but then evolution kind of converged. So predators do have similar hearts, lungs, digestive tracks and so forth, but there is much less redundancy. Especially in the brain; it's like ours, except if ours were condensed all in the head. And there are a bunch of other small differences, but most are sort of superficial.

>Say, do predators feature spermballs as well?
Uh yeah like this one. Annnnnd no they don't, actually.

>What would happen if you brain-darted someone with their own brain matter years after extraction?
Well depending on how much they change, the person might revert back to an older personality, or not. It would just kind of be reabsorbed. The salikai haven't been able to test it though since they can't get the original Rokoa back, but they did do it on a clone that was pretty close to the original. Annnnd not much really changed, but it's hard to tell what really went on inside.

>Is being overweight as a neumono seen as more or less negative than with humans?
Well, from what I know, we were kind of opposite of humans. Even then it depended on the culture, but I understand that being fat was a sign of being well off in many places. Later on though, it was seen as unhealthy. For us, pre-contact, it was bad. It can get in the way of physical performance, and having to eat so much can be bad. Ones own hive could look past it though if that neumono could still perform well, and hunt enough food to, uh, carry their weight, pun unintended. Still, fitness was important.

Now, though, my hive for instance is peaceable, and since we don't have problems with food, I'm welcome to stay off of a diet. And I generate a bit more body heat than most, so I'm sort of considered the hive's pillow. And I like that, if you wondered.

>How do the majority of neumono fall in love? Is it a combination of empathy, personality and physical traits?
Yes, that's exactly it.

>Are any of them more prominent?
Yes, but that's entirely up to the individual.

>What about jammer city neumono? And are interspecies relationships more common among jammer city neumono, due to being used to the lack of empathy?
Well, making physical contact is definitely a bigger deal, since you are kind of getting inside of them mentally. But obviously for lovers, there's going to be a lot of that, so empathy is still very important.

>Do rogues have a harder time falling in love than hive neumono?
Yes, they have a difficult time making friends, let alone falling in love. I mean, they can make friends in the sense that they can find people they get along with and have fun with, but they having trouble feeling that bond with the other person.

>But Polo, it can't have been empathy effects, because Rikora and Rokoa grew up under different conditions.
Right. Maybe. I don't know. Rokoa is a freak. By 'not normal genetics' I mean normally she shouldn't be so big. She's abnormal, and so are her genes. I didn't mean that her genetics were fake or something.

Rokoa's whole hive was big.

>Your planet was only explored recently, right? It probably hasn't even been explored entirely yet!
It hasn't. Contact was 70 years ago. Part of my whole expedition down to the voklit reservation was partially to seek the salikai, and partially to simply map the underground cavern systems.

>Is it really so outrageous that there are neumono populations who are outside the expected range, simply because the people who formulated those expectations hadn't encountered them yet?
I suppose it is not.

>Also, you didn't really answer as to whether there are any really small neumono.
I attempted to imply this with jungle and archipelago biome neumono. Cave system is not considered its own biome.

>Once this is all over, you should make some brain darts using your own gray matter.
I intend on living for a long time, but I doubt that I will ever hear an idea that is as bad as this one.

>Polo do you think you could ever get mad enough to beat someone to death with your sniper rifle?
I have never been that mad, and if I do such a thing out of anger, it would be one of the most fundamental failures of mine.

>Ultraking Az! Big red guy! Will you tell us about yourself?
It just so happens that's one of my favorite pasttimes.

>holy shit
>look at all these questions
>goddamn they're everywhere

Well now I'm committed.

>What does the "ultraking" title mean, exactly?
It means I'm the King of my own hive, and have rulership over several more. Kind of a major general, kind of a major deal. But yeah we don't have a solitary king over the whole Ultrahive. That wouldn't be fair or cool.

>Once a hive is in the ultrahive for long enough to be trusted, their king or queen gets promoted and gets a particular job and some authority outside their own personal hive?
Yeah that's the gist of it, course, you know, they kind of have to have some actual experience leading up to their spot of promotion. They can't just be on farm duty for a century and then have their queen be in charge of the treasury or something. So it's a combo of competency and seniority.

>What if they don't have a ruler-type neumono?
Then they're better get to work on that.

>How do ultrahives make their collective decisions?
All the ultra's get together and discuss shit at the high table, all the queens and kings that care to join are at the mid table, and then there are some galactic listeners that make sure we're not going fucking insane over here.

>How many hives are in your ultrahive?
Thousands. Like, just shy of 10 grand. Last I checked. At first that didn't mean much for our numbers, but as food started skyrocketing, people started doing mad amounts of baby making.

>Are any of those hives related to each other?
Well yeah, to bond us hives together in ways that weren't smacking each other's shit, there was all sorts of interbreeding going on as peace treaty kinda deals. Guy and a girl does it between a hive, twice over, and one kid goes to each of 'em. For awhile I thought I was gonna be ruling an ultrahive full of brats.

Then some hives have some schisms - protected and sanctioned, of course - and some rogues would make cute little factions and whatever.

>Would you say ultrahives are effectively equivalent to nations?
Yep.

>Would that make you equivalent to chief of the military in your ultrahive, or are you one of several military chiefs?
One of at least a few. Course, usually they're some specialization going. There's airforce hives, navy hives, infantry hives, and myself, run in and shoot shit hives. Course, that doesn't mean it's just our own hive, just means near all of our own hive belongs to that particular branch. Often it's pretty elitist too, we gotta be the damn best.

>Do you divide your military according to hives or do you try to mix them together?
Usually squads are made to be in a single hive, but there's regular training to get along with other hives in case that scenario comes up. Which it often does. And sometimes when we get a mission where failure is an option, then we'll send out a bunch of hives to try and work together. That's make or break, but if they make it, it's huge ultrahive brownie points. So they're good motivation to not be asswipes to each other.

>What are you going to call it when several ultrahives ally with each other?
An ultramegahyper hive. Or, you know, a big ultrahive.

>Did your ultrahive worry about revealing Polo's existence and abilities to the public, much less the more limited reveal that she was still alive, considering that you are clearly going to try to train more like her and her abilities are particularly tailored to fighting other neumono?
Well it was going to get out somehow anyway, we just wanted to try our best to keep it on the downlow.

>Wouldn't it cause diplomatic trouble, or is the state of affairs on the homeworld such that all the ultrahives still expect other neumono to be their most likely enemies, and taking such advantages is expected?
Well at least that's what we can say. I mean there's still a zillion hives out there that haven't been absorbed. Plus, us two ultrahives don't always get along, and so long as we don't enter heavy hostilities, it's easy to handwave a little squad scuffle so long as they aren't dumbasses and actually kill each other. Plus then there's the factions that really don't want hives to interact. Course, with those feelings, they sure won't get any help from any other hives, so they basically took care of the first half of 'divide and conquer' for us. Point is, there's gonna be a lot of neumono hostilities for a long time.

>Also, what do you think about this business with predators being tamed?
Just about every part of me feels that's fucking wrong. That 'just about' is kind of the kicker, though. I've seen predators. I've fought predators. I took a look at Three Stripes. That was not the predator I remember. That was like the kid-friendly version of the monsters I've had to deal with.

>What's your personal hive like?
See "run in and shoot everything' from above.

>How long is it since they modernized?
Basically since contact. Was right at the start. I was pretty young at the time, just a couple years before becoming king. We were shown some tech, and one of my hivemates handed me some stupid looking weapon that made me wonder if these star wanderers ever fought anyone before. Then I looked down the hole to see if anything was inside while I pushed on some little dingle and I've been in love ever since.

>Are you pretty gender-equal in your hive, or have you gone against type by becoming as powerful as you are?
Yeah. There's usually a bit of a female lead going on in the macroscopic scene, but my hive is pretty equal.

>Do you have any kids?
Get a load of this question, 'do I have any kids?'

>Any wives/husbands/girlfriends/boyfriends/consorts/concubines/bedbuddies?
This question too. If I am not on duty then I am probably fucking someone. Hell I might be fucking someone anyway. So including but not limited to the above.

>On that subject, you being a military man, and soldiers being linked with this sort of thing historically in many species, what's prostitution like among neumono?
There's a brothel hive or three out there. I sure didn't sense any shame from 'em. Course, even on long missions out in the middle of nowhere, like I said, we generally send out hives, so they can take care of each other however they need to. So we don't need to fund any brothel hives as moral boosters. Course, the multi-hive missions listed above notwithstanding, but that's just as much to test how much shit a neumono can put up with, so better we don't let 'em take any steam off anyway.

>Does it have the kind of social stigma it does in other species
There's a prude hive or three out there too. Hell, some people want me out of title out of some notion that good generals can't be lovers. And a bunch more that are just uneasy at the idea of a neumono going outside of their hive for some action. Well that's too bad for 'em, cause to the ultrahive, a good pair of tits can go on anyone. Except dudes. Usually. Technology's pretty amazing.

>Finally -
Goddamn finally.

>Do you put "ultraking" on all your stationary?
And then some. Ultraking, High General, Az rozu Gunblocker, so on. Not all at once, I want room to mix it up sometimes. Even so, I'm the reason why signature lines are two centimeters longer than they used to be.

>Do yich eaters have any natural predators/defense mechanisms?
We were not explicitly hunted by much, but there were some insects that would seek out old or sick yich eaters. Parasites were also common.

>Also, how far has modern technology come in making procreation less painful for the second female?
Considerably. Unfortunately, it requires considerable medical attention to give the correct dosage of anaesthesia, and the entire process from pregnancy to birth is uncomfortable at best. Therefore, to take full advantage of the technology as it is, is considerably expensive. Most opt to simply have dosage during the birth itself while using mundane techniques to alleviate comfort until then.

I can't help but wonder if you just got a little bit of action but a moment ago, if not even while your answering these questions.

What is that thing on your ear, anyways? At first I thought it might be a tracker or some other safeguard the salikai attached to you, but that seems a bad place for something like that, considering how easy it is for a neumono to lose an ear.

>>80754
>body type means she defaults to her hive's pillow
...in retrospect, it's really not so surprising she ended up being so good at dreamwalking.

>>80757
I assume military rank is separate from that ultra leadership-pyramid? One doesn't need be the king or queen of his or her hive to end up as a general or an admiral? I mean, obviously, there are leadership qualities that overlap, but you're going to have more than one person from the same hive with those qualities if their hive is biased for it. (And military and domestic skillsets are exactly the same, anyways).

You seem to be one of the few self professed exophiles we've encountered. We've heard neumono norms tend to look down on that, and that it's uncommon. How's it look from your perspective? Are the interhive prudes in the majority, the minority, losing ground fast...?

Are you choosy about species and if so, how would you rank them on likeability? I believe another neumono said that fur is important.

Az: How's Sealock doing in the ultrahive? Do they know what's going on with Polo? What role do they play in the ultrahive, and how much influence does their queen have? How good are they in bed?
