What's a Fallen? Is the Reckoning the organization that tells stars where to go and what to do? What allows the Reckoning to hold power over stars?

Astral thinks about the Fallen. They are physically warped, insane, or otherwise broken stars. For whatever reason, the Reckoning hunts them down and solidifies them, sealing them in a semi-circular container to heal and be reborn.

This process takes a very long time, often completely changing the star, and Astral wants no part of it. 'Fallen' is also used to refer to stars likely to be Fallen in the future, such as mad or corrupted stars.

What are you supposed to do according to your society, who says so, why exactly did you disagree, and what does your disagreement with them mean as far as the society you came from is concerned, and how much does that matter?

Astral thinks about her 'duty'.

Stars are supposed to light up the darkness. They are positioned around the universe where they can light up their assigned segments of the darkness.

Light is good, darkness is bad... But Astral doesn't want to sit in the same place forever, doing nothing but existing.

So what if she leaves? What point is there to living like a statue, moving only when pulled by others?

It's not like stars do anything, anyway.

The Reckoning disagrees, though. She might be able to outrun it temporarily, but it's always chasing her. Just a few steps behind, now. But she'll find a way to escape it.

If it finds her, she'll be back where she was, forever. Or worse.

That's not going to happen.
