I'm going to open a discussion thread for two motives:

1) Considering the current state, i feel it could be helpful explaining or answer questions that might be meta-related, like the natural abilities that a Ranidae possesses or how the magic works in the world, etc, so to keep the quest fluid.

2) Since this is my first quest ever i wanted to know your opinions, critiques or advices on and for it! I'd really appreciate any input to make it better.

A reasonable theory. You wouldn't normally expect someone without blood to fear vampires- if they had a hand in creating him, and therefore have some degree of power over him, he'd have a reason to.

Although, if it wasn't for the character treat listing the trait, I'd have guessed the fear of vampires was a lie / cover story. That he wore the smelly garlic to discourage people from getting too close to him and seeing through his disguise and/or to cover up what he naturally smells like.

Succubuses are actually rather slow and weak, despite their sizes.
They use charme and hypnosis to lure victims and then tire them out before eating them, since they are unable to keep the hypnosis going while feeding.

A sturdy collar will prevent the Succubus to pretty much feed normally, and it will also make it rather angry and hungry. Not many wizards ever think of doing that in order to tame or keep a succubus, since they are still intelligent demons that will try to end you.

>>92112

I called it Hypnosis because it causes a state of reduced awareness and a better response to suggestions by the succubus, but i guess the term calm spell and charme works better. Succubus can't really control completely other creatures movements, they need to mantain a visual connection between them and the victim, which means that the things that they can make them do is limited. Usually it makes the victim see the succubus as a possible mate and not something menacing.
>>

92227

>>92210

There are two ways used by wizards to tame demons.
First one is demon-binding. In which you allow a demon to pass from the spiritual realm where they are trapped into the material world through a bloody ritual where corpses, covered in specific runes are put in a magical circle. The circle attracts the spirit of the demon, that possesses the remains and rebuilds its physical form into the material world, engulfing the runes into its own body. Those runes anchors the corpses and the soul together, and they are linked to the binding wizard, making so that if the demon ever tries to hurt the wizard, the runes will immediately disrupt the body, causing it to return to the spiritual world.

The second one is a powerful charme spell, casted and refreshed multiple times. This is usually done by wizards and priests to calm a demon down and allow others to destroy the body. It is also used by evil wizards that lack the way of casting a demon-binding ritual, but it's really risky, due to the charme spell duration.

Wizards usually prefer to enthrall elementals rather than demons, since they are usually easier to tame. Powerful wizards prefer to use demons because they are restless, powerful and merciless. Perfect as guards and assassins.

And then there are the weird wizards...

Demons lives in a parallel plane where there are no real phyiscal forms or objects. They live as angry spirits that roam near the barrier that divides them from the world, looking for openings or cracks.

When they find a crack, which usually doesn't remain for a long time, a demon can slip into the material world. Then they need to find corpses or bodies to possess before the opening closes and their soul is cut out by the barrier. destroying them. When a spiritual demon finds a suitable body (or pile of bodies), they immediately jump into it, grabbing the place where the soul of the deceased used to be. If they are lucky they will also find the remains of the soul before the host loses his life completely. After that they start modelling the body in the form that they find suitable (usually it depends on how a demon sees itself, a couple of demons are able to identifies themselves into bigger creatures, but lacking the necessary material, they manage to turn themselves in lesser forms, allowing them to remain in the material world). They consume the body, modelling it in the best suitable form and using the remain as fuel for it. They then roam the lands, trying to eat as much as they can. that makes them grow stronger and stronger. And if a body is killed or destroyed, they will simply jump back into the demonic world. There is no real way of destroying a demon, unless you manage to stop them before they can find a host and letting the barrier destroy them.

>>96994

Orcs in the world of FrogQuest/Weirdling Saga are mostly civilized.

They used to be divided in several tribes and clan and live in secluded lands or mountains and they would raid the other populations for iron, food and women.

Despite multiple efforts, orcs were impossible to extinguish as a race, so they were invited to join most populations, first as mercenaries, later as actual soldier and citizens.

In particular, during the time of Weirdling Saga, the orc population of Gund was rather big. Many orcs were part of the army of the King Peregros, and even the royal guard and the high commander were orcs.
Other orcs, through civilization, have discovered new interests and jobs, many became smiths and jewelers, and few even became writers (one of them is the author of the book Masha was reading at the beginning of the quest, "the incredible adventures of Har Vey the Pugventurer" ).

Despite being integrated, most orc still mantain some costumes from their old days. Ritualistic tatoos, the use of a nose ring made of a specific metal to represents the clans and families, and the orcish language.

It still doesn't excuses his way of acting, since most of his life was dictated by paranoia and selfishness.

and yet the whole thing is still better than what you'd have gotten by choosing the "Brawler" background during character creation.

I gotta say this plot twist is really fucking stupid. Are we supposed to believe that NOBODY looked under the mask of the alchemist that was trusted with producing potions for the entire town? Nobody looked into his past, or checked to see that he was trustworthy and not a fucking DEMON?

There's also the fact that the method in which the town was turned into demons flies in the face of everything we know about possession. You have to do a ritual in order to bring the soul of the demon from the other side. It's not fucking ALCHEMY.

Oh right and you were obviously railroading it so that we couldn't kill him, either. We tried to kill him three times and it was just "nope he didn't get hurt" or "whoops your hand burst into a claw before you could do anything".

Alright. First of all thanks for the feedback. Let me answer a couple of things.

>I gotta say this plot twist is really fucking stupid. Are we supposed to believe that NOBODY looked under the mask of the alchemist that was trusted with producing potions for the entire town? Nobody looked into his past, or checked to see that he was trustworthy and not a fucking DEMON?

Charred One came under the protection and the orders of the high hierarchy of the Unquenchable Flame. He basically outranked everyone aside Ludwig, which has been shown to be the kind of guy that trust his own church. He also lived inside the buildings that the church owns so he really didn't have many contacts with the rest of the city, that was happy enough to get free stuffs without really checking where they come from.

>There's also the fact that the method in which the town was turned into demons flies in the face of everything we know about possession. You have to do a ritual in order to bring the soul of the demon from the other side. It's not fucking ALCHEMY.

You might referring to Demon-binding. Which is the direct way to pull a demon from the other side and bind it to your will.

The point is for demons is that they need a crack in the barrier and corpses to possess which is really difficult for them to do (or else the world would be swarming with demons). The final part of the update should show why Charred One might know a couple of things on how to get around those points somehow.

>Oh right and you were obviously railroading it so that we couldn't kill him, either. We tried to kill him three times and it was just "nope he didn't get hurt" or "whoops your hand burst into a claw before you could do anything".

Ok, here i have to agree on the 3 times, and disagree on not being able to kill him.
Choosing to remove his mask gave him the opportunity to throw the concoction and help Infester pass through. There was a reason why Ludwig didn't turn outright. The goblin/succubus hinted something.
I had the problem of milking the updates because i wanted to show the transformation a but i found myself unable to realistically draw the correct amount of pics. Ending up fucking the pacing of the updates (in a similar fashion to Weirdling Saga chase). I am juggling different things in my life at the moment and it realistically ended up to the point where updating and following multiple quests make me commit a lot of mistake in terms of pacing. I apologize wholeheartedly on that point, and i will try to see if i can find a way to fix my pacing better in story-heavy quests. Consider the fact that this "intermission" started over a year ago and between hiatus due to family, college and other stuff i wasn't able to keep up like i used with the other three chapter that had consistent updates. Which i think is the problem for both me and readers.

>Also look at this! That's not an Infestor, it's a Fetcher.

I'm gonna paste the same thing i said on /quest.
Because it is.

Like Charred One said it: "Not what. Who. Infester. One of the primordial ones! Demons weren't always savage! The oldest ones were cunning and powerful. Infester, Usurper, Devourer and Betrayer... The progenitors of all demons."

It isn't just a fetcher, It is the First Fetcher.

Again. Thanks for the feedback and sorry for the milked updates. I swear i will find a way to fix that mental problem i'm having.

I'm not worried about the Demon Apocalypse. Demons are a load of chumps. I'd put them on a level about as threatening as zombies that breathe fire: Dangerous, but easily dealt with out in the open. Even Fetcher was easy to divert. We now know why they need an order of paladins to unknowingly help them doom entire cities: They're not really good at fighting and tend to assume they can just tank everything because "HAH I'M A DEMON I'M INVINCIBLE!" That and the majority of them are braindead. Now we just need to find that stupid candle and throw it into the ocean like they should have done LAST time there was a brutal and pointless war that slaughtered countless innocent dragon-worshipers.

Also, one more thing! Before anyone tries to figure out 'what good could possibly justify genocide and unleashing a horde of flesh devouring demons who murder everyone in their path to make more demons', the answer is 'nothing'. No good can justify this. Even if their reasoning is 'the world will literally blow up if we don't get that egg', which it won't, you cannot justify the butchering of innocents on a grand scale.

Also, the real reason for all this is probably that the Primal Demons had their brood's sapience taken away by the dragons, so the Flame, which is a Demon manifesting in an odd way, is trying to exterminate all dragons and everyone who knows about them so it can forcibly manifest demons in the physical world, devouring all the mortals and dragonspawn and starting an era wherein demons are the only thinking beings kept alive, with all other life relegated as cattle to supply them with corpses.

Eh, I'm alright with how it went. You had decent enough reasons for why ludwig didn't suspect the dude of being evil, (we only managed a few in-character ones before the reveal, and while they would make me watch the dude it wouldn't make me outright hostile to the guy) and I *never* would have guessed the dude was a demon so I would have taken similar steps as ludwig.(I personally would never have taken the potions he offered though. Drugs/potions should never be a normal/every day thing)

I'm personally not the biggest fan of the 'mook that we killed has come back as a boss' thing, but I can accept it as a story choice. You can make it work from a lore/backround standpoint, it just clicks a bit wrong with my personal tastes.

I think the Flame is a fire dragon and the demons are its immortal servant constructs.

As a narrative I understand why would you want to preserve an antagonist like the Charred One. He deceived, manipulated and were directly responsible for a massacre, making him someone we can't avoid hating. The Infester is the kind of opponent we fear, the Charred One is the kind we wish to punish.
In universe the wisest action would be kill him as fast as possible, but I understand Ludwig wasn't the smartest character and until the end wanted to believe the alchemist to be a liar.

The revelation that the Charred One was a Ranidae had some interesting implications that were lost with the revelation that he is possessed. Unless I'm misunderstanding the situation and the frog and the demon inside him are two separate entities.

Gnuk said he disagreed about Ludwig not killing the Charred One, which implies that he did die. It was somewhat unclear in the update; for all we knew the Charred One pulled some super-strong healing potion out of his sack and downed it after Infestor took its claw out of his gut.
