I'm currently staying in a hostel in Japan, which has been blocked from posting to 4chan for some reason. Not sure if it's country, IP, or what. The ban message is vague. Anyway, I was hoping one of you could help me. I was looking at L5R and had some questions. If someone could answer these, post the message on /tg/ for me and post the thread number, or even both, I would really appreciate it.

/tg/, I've heard about L5R for many many years now and have always been a little interests. Is this game dead? Is it worth getting into and if so, what would be the best way to do so? What types of game play formats are there? I'm coming from an MTG background if that last question needs context.

No. 8801 ID: 364fd8

Oh hey, L5R! I assume you're talking more about the CCG than the RPG (which is also good). Anyway, I'm a few years out of the loop and never really got into the tourney scene so consider me a sketchy source here. That said though...

It's a really solid game. I'd say second only to Magic as far as CCGs go, and to my knowledge, any card ever printed is still totally fair game. New sets don't reinvent the wheel mechanically, they just progress things plot wise.

As in, every year they have a big ol' tournament, with the developers watching how the last few games play out. If Clan X comes out on top, the fluff of the next set says their leader is the new emperor. If there's a big duel between two characters, one kills the other. If someone wins by mixing some naga cards into his deck? That clan allies with the naga. Stuff like that.

This leads to multiple versions of the same character, but you're free to use any or all. You can promote a character to a version of that character from a later set as an alternate method of getting them into play.

Past that, there are, if I recall, 3 ways to win- There's actual cards of the 5 rings you can get out, but doing so is a royal pain, so that almost never happens. There's successfully attacking all 4 of your opponents Holding cards (kind of a combination of life points/secondary hand containing all your land-equivalent cards, to really stretch a metaphor), and there's getting up to 40 honor points, which, in my experience, is the most common victory method, since a lot of things rack armor up, particularly winning a fight.

Attacks are big productions that don't get made until pretty late in the game generally. There's a ton of buildup until someone feels confident that they can win and makes a major attack, and then you spend a good 5 minutes or so activating special abilities, playing cards, challengin

I've got to vent about my table's THAT GUY, and I didn't see another good place for this.

I have an oddball for a that guy. Emphasis on the odd. Or at least he'd like that to be the case. My table's that guy never claims to have never really gotten out of his 'LOL SO RANDUM' phase, but if you sat in at a game you'd never know it. He's not disruptive, but he never contributes to the game. Not in the slightest bit.

A campaign back we put a whole evening into carefully building the each character as a group, but when we got to T.G. he had no idea who or what he wanted to be. He likes the Cthulhu mythos (but I'll get into that in a bit) so we suggested some ways we could incorporate that, and it was getting pretty cool. But he waffled on everything, to the point that he would ask us for suggestions, we'd offer two mutually exclusive options, and he'd literally just mumble and brush off the point. His character ended up getting a custom built race, class archetype, plot and provided a good reason for him to be socially weird in game. Three sessions later and he has said, MAYBE, three sentences in character. The only action I can remember him taking (and this is indicative of how he likes to be LOL SO RANDUM) was to start eating a corpse in an alley way. When people freaked the fuck out at the sight, he clammed up and couldn't decide what to do, and ended up hiding on a spell and a good stealth roll.

In our current game, he's flaked on our last few games. When I spoke with him about it, he said he still wants to game, but isn't comfortable with his character (a cleric) because he's not religious. We've had sixteen sessions of this game, in my sixteen pages or so of notes, he's character is mentioned twice. Once when he botched some negotiations by refusing to talk to a spirit, and once when he had to accompany another character (th

It's less that you're venting and more that you don't know what to do and you are seeking opinions on the matter.

Opinion 1: Stop making excuses and kick him from the group if he doesn't fit in. He doesn't fit in. Kick him from the group.

Opinion 2: Stop making excuses and just talk to the guy about the stuff you're having trouble with. If he doesn't improve, follow Opinion 1.
No. 10068 ID: 2de44c

Talk it out, tell him he's not contributing enough to the group. You don't wanna kick him but you really want him to participate in this you're working very hard to make happen
No. 10107 ID: b44bfb

I dunno if I can help, since my entire gaming group is made out of 'That Guys,' (me included, probably) but I will offer my ideas regardless.

I certainly do not think you should kick him from the group. I also realise this is like, two weeks old now, and you may have very well already taken action against that guy.

To me, he sounds like he is stricken by trepidation, and not by an unwillingness or inability to cooperate with you and the other players. He may feel inadequate around the rest of you, given your more impressive occupations, and apparent social aptitude (which this fellow strikes me as devoid of). To me, his small claims of 'LOLRANDUMB' attitude seem more like a way to appear more, I don't know, well-adjusted, or whatever. I don't know.

I don't know how you guys are with him at the table, but I can suggest perhaps you should consider being a little more lenient with him, to a point, of course. Possibly even positively reinforcing good, and active role-playing with small, in-game rewards. You know, a little extra gold or something.

If you are concerned with his unwillingness to speak in-character, then perhaps I can suggest including some dialogue, or actual specific questions, aimed at his character.

As for not showing up, well, that's how it goes, I guess.

Okay, since the main post was massively outdated and it was filled with unpleasant things that could drive a newbie away, I've decided to just go ahead and start a new one.

TGMUD is a Multi User Dungeon created for /tg/chan, with mostly /quest/ content, based off the CoffeeMUD engine (which is really fantastic, if a bit buggy). It is now graciously hosted by Dylan, possibly until TLE reappears if he is willing to host it again.

The channel is #tgmud on irc.rizom.net. The MUD is hosted on www4.tgchan.org temporarily, on port 5555.

If you were a member of the old tgMUD, I sincerely apologize. It is difficult to run a project, and I definitely did not handle it the right way. If you felt insulted or wronged by my behavior, I am sorry for it, and I would like to welcome you back to the reboot with no hard feelings. I promise to be less of a dick this time.

I don't know if any of you all here know of the Primarch's Daughters project that was all the rage on 4chans /tg/ a while back. Well the quick and dirty is that the Horus Heresy never happened, all the primarchs found someone to live with and now have daughters. And those daughters all go to the same high school together.

Now i wonder if there sre any who would like to continue this epic project since 4chan's /tg/ seems to have dropped it completely.

Yarrick shoved Furia into a seat, then settled into his own swiveling chair. They glared at each other for five long, silent minutes. The Dean pulled out a small silvery flask, understated filigree resolving briefly into the Imperial Guard's skull-and-wings icon before the angle changed. He took a long pull and paused. After another minute he nodded, and passed her the flask. She threw her had back, taking fully half of the ash whiskey down before handing it back, and nodding in turn. Yarrick began to organize paperwork as Furia stood and adjusted her bag, then walked out.

Irono Axebeard hefted his axe and trudged blearily down the stone corridor. He'd had far too much to drink last night, but awoke with, or at least an hour after, the others to do his duty. "It's those damn Eldar's what it is... spiked my flagon." The heavy axe started to tip forward as Irono nodded off, the distant thunder of heavy guns and muffled chatter of homeforged scatterguns insufficient to rouse him. His head edged closer and closer to the quivering power field, "hehsuh, was the Eldar," a loud snore racked his frame, followed by a short crack as the ionized air discharged a bolt of electricity from the axe to his bulbous nose. Irono awoke, suddenly remembering his charge.

"Yes, Mountainfather?"

"Commander, my title is commander, Iaerno."

"Of course, of course. Those damn Eldar." Iaerno mumbled, his eyes immediately drooping with brew and weariness.

He was never happy with calling them Eldar, probably another trick the damnable Elves had played on his proud and noble people, another deception. But the others always "corrected" him, and he begrudged them their addled minds.

"Iaerno, are you awake?"

"Of course, of course Mou-er, Commander. Simply a little sickness, the full flagon flu, you understand." Iaerno winked conspiratorially, his eyes fluttering as they tried to settle back to sleep, seemingly confused by the action.

The flames swept over the pile of bodies, and suddenly a great cry arouse. They all stopped and looked up to see Iaerno Aexbard roll heavily atop the Carnifex's mutilated body, now snoring loudly.

Burfess rushed over, shaking the sleeping warrior awake. "Iaerno! Iaerno, you're alive!"

"Whuh?" The snoring resumed as Iaerno slipped instantly back into well deserved rest.

Burfess chuckled, and roused him again, "Iaerno, what happened here? How did you manage to... to kill so many?"

Iaerno snorted and mumbled, heady dreams of stout brew and stouter women flitting through his mind, "Suwuh, it was the Eldar."

Burfess chuckled, then laughed aloud, and soon enough the others joined him.

Far away, lightyears away from the Daerven system floated a graceful craft, seemingly composed entirely of a forest of bone. Great crystal domes allowed a view inside, an entire world suspended on the emptiness of space.

Thousands upon thousands of Eldar moved through this self-sustaining world, living their lives.

Deeper in the ship, in the psychoplastic wraithbone structure of the craft itself, swam another hundred thousand minds, the souls of dead Eldar, forever alive and ready to assist their brethren at a moment's notice.

Deeper yet, even farther inside, sat a lone figure, reclining easily in his seat. He wore a helmet and armor, disguising his features, but still radiated a palpable aura of satisfaction, and, perhaps, dickishness.

Eldrad Ulthan watched through the warp as yet another splinter of Hive Fleet Kraken perished, another threat to his people ended by the arms and armor of a younger race.

Low, so low not even a Space Wolf standing at the doorway could hear it, a single phrase whispered out.

"Just as planned."

Looking for players for a possible Pathfinder game!

Game will be weekly, more often if everyone is mysteriously available and in the mood.

Game will start at Level 1.

Game will use the Pathfinder SRD. http://www.d20pfsrd.com/

If you have other books you want to use, you must provide a digital copy of some sort for me to read.

Either post images of character sheets, or use one of the various online generators available.

I'm looking for something between 3 to 5 players. Sessions will run until 'practical stopping point', or for about three hours, maybe.

A practical time will be decided when everyone is gathered.

Let's get this show on the road!

Hey, I have not played much DnD and I have no idea what to do for my characters personality as I've mostly played tabletops in modern settings. I'm thinking of going with an half-elf sorceress but I've got no clue what to do past that.
No. 9895 ID: 07ede0

Personality would be something that's hard to help with...but maybe I can think of something.

- A sorceress who is sick and f***ing tired of wizards treating her as a lesser being for their greater knowledge of how magic works, and treats them with greater disdain than other magi. She has great skill with ray-and-touch-based battle magic (acid arrow, spectral hand, etc).

- A half-elf whose half-elf parents wanted to teach her another trade, but she learned of her powers and decided to pursue that path instead. She has a fascination with the idea of making a tattoo scroll, or perhaps a tattoo familiar (specialized feats?).

- A sorceress whose temper is quite even, and whose magics are naturally subtle as a result of this temperament (enchantment and illusion specializations). She has the bloodline of a subtle creature, such as a rakshasa or devil, which is where her sorcery and temperament come from.

idk just thinking aloud.

So far I intend the Players to start in the Real World, in some kind of unnamed, but large city.
I'd leave it to the players wherever they know each other and if they already have their 'mons.
The first couple of sessions would establish the characters and the relation between eachother, while also introducing Wild Ones that enter the world and cause chaos, perhaps even threatening the Players quite directly.
I am not sure how to do this exactly though.

Eventually I would bring up a third Party into the game, which is basically a secret government funded Organization made to contain or eliminate any threats that appear, but also to study them.
They would also study why and how the Wild Ones enter the world and explain it to the Players, the reasons being the Internet increasing in size and the Barrier between the worlds being more and more fragile.
Wild Ones with luck may reach the real World or they may be helped from outside by humans who actively seek to 'summon' them.
No. 8819 ID: b3b2ec
File 135144795037.png - (312.48KB , 1311x2674 , Storytime _02.png )

The Government group, called 'Hypnos' for now (I really do need a different name) would have 2 influential characters:

A charismatic, but aggressive and cold Project leader, who believes the attacking monsters to be a threat to eliminated and nothing more.
He'll go as far as to deny any sentience of the Digimon and claim that the monsters are simple animals, incapable of free will and simply mimic human behavior to manipulate people to feel pity.
I've considered making him a father of a destined that has gone missing, which would be why he takes his job personal and relies on it for psychological and financial support.

Further the would be a subordinate scientist, high in rank and obsessed with the idea of creating life from scratch and the evolution of the Monsters.
He would push the organization to capture Wild Ones alive, to 'study' and to preserve them.
In the late stages of the campaign he would attempt to create a perfect Digimon from scratch, which wouldn't turn out so well.
I'd hint at him having contact with a 'Mon, but he would barely remember it himself.
No. 8820 ID: b3b2ec

The invading Wild Ones would have a Group too, I am unsure how to name then though.
I intended them to be Conquerors, but that didn't seem to fit anymore as I worked it out a bit.
First the Wild Ones would reveal that they come to the Real World seeking for, what they assume to be their destiny, to become perfect and become creators themselves.
They however, would have been created, or rather given live by certain Digital Gods, these Gods would seek to prove their worth by showing their creations to mankind, but also to punish them for creating the imperfect and violent Digital World.

The last kind of Antagonist I considered is a cold, calculating Monster, in the literal and figurative sense.
He would be created by the scientist guy, made to be 'perfect', which would play out in him basically feeling superior to every single thing.
While not only extremely powerful, this one would be smart enough to attempt to rile up the Players against each other.
There is one catch to him however, as he loads Data of his opponents to become stronger, he does so very efficiently, but once he reaches a certain threshold, he would lose sanity, and be in constant pain.
That pain could only be temporarily numbed, by loading more opponents, which would result in him becoming more and more of a wild, rabid beast.

I also considered making a formerly known Digimon into this monster, be it villain or friend, to make it more impacting.

Thats pretty much it so far, I basically need Feedback on these Ideas, Names and Digimon to fill these Roles would be nice too.

I wish to create a Legends of the Wulin discussion thread.

For those unfamiliar, it is the spiritual successor of the Weapon of the Gods RPG and has been compared to FATE and Exalted.

You roll a pool of dice and create matching sets. The more sets you can create, the more actions you can do.

Anybody here familiar/interested in this game?

OP here

Thanks for responding! I wouldn't bother you guys with this thread, since it's pretty slow, but I am honored to have someone instrumental to this game's development willing to speak on its behalf!

At the moment, I only have a few questions.

1. Are you assumed to be "proficient" with all of the weapons of your External Kung Fu? For instance, if I was using Blossom Harvest and a Staff, could I drop my Staff in combat and switch to Unarmed or a Massive weapon?

2. I have been informed by my local game store that they will be receiving a few copies of the game, but have no dates listed. Do you have any news regarding expected printing/shipping dates?

3. During a round of combat, on your turn, can you elect to not attack and instead perform a Marvel? For instance, if you and I were on a rooftop, but you were using Graceful Crane and I wanted to reduce the amount of Replies I took, could I choose to not strike you and instead just utilize a Knockback Marvel to try and push you off the roof?

That's all I have for now, and I appreciate the time you have taken to respond. Thanks!

>1. Are you assumed to be "proficient" with all of the weapons of your External Kung Fu? For instance, if I was using Blossom Harvest and a Staff, could I drop my Staff in combat and switch to Unarmed or a Massive weapon?
Yes. In fact, 'weapon proficiency' isn't a thing in LotW. You can use any weapon with any style - however, unless your weapon is compatible with your style, you don't get to add the weapon traits (listed on pages 192 through 194) to the External Style statblock (Speed/Footwork/Strike/Damage/Block/Toughness).

>2. I have been informed by my local game store that they will be receiving a few copies of the game, but have no dates listed. Do you have any news regarding expected printing/shipping dates?
I am afraid I do not, but if you want, I can ask around. You'd probably have more luck asking about that particular issue on the RPG.net forum thread.

By the rules, no. You have to make the attack and include the Knockback marvel. That's not a valid way to avoid replies.

I've been trying to find an online game of lotw for ages; has anyone else had any luck with this, or wants to start one?
Willing to attempt pbp, seeing as timezones can be a problem.

Hmm. Looking into this... Huh. Yeah, this is pretty damn cool. You and your colleagues did a fine job, Mr. Hughes.

Anyone trying the current 0.8 dev builds?

Felid Monks are agreeably killy. Sneak up on things and one-shot them in their sleep. Also I just grew a mane, thus apparently making me +2 furry http://pastebin.ca/2033789 .

And yes I am bad at remembering to ever try out scrolls to ID them before the last moment. And, yes, +5 ring of evasion on an early dlvl as well as being awesome at dodge. The RNG is going to rape me.

>< LionsPhil> >You squeeze the jackal. You kill the jackal! Your Stabbing skill increases to level 1!
>< LionsPhil> >The [other] jackal barks! The jackal gazes forward, looking utterly alone.
>< Rurik> :<
>< LionsPhil> I feel bad now. :(
>< Rurik> You should!
>< LionsPhil> They are together now ;_;

>< LionsPhil> Hmm. Just found an evil enchantress, zapped her with a previously unidentified want of paralysis, then constricted her to death in my tentacles.
>< LionsPhil> I'm /fairly/ sure I didn't launch one of Driblis' kind of RPGs instead by accident. Fairly.
> * LionsPhil chops her up for rations
>< LionsPhil> Oh christ, two /more/ evil hyoomons. Help me, miscellaneous fluffy forest creatures I can summon!
>< LionsPhil> Welp. Sigmund'ed.

Seriously, they give octopodes grappling (I...assume it's unarmed-only, anyway), but make their "ideal" classes magicians? I'm gone pick the specialisation that introduces as many other targets as possible.

So I end up spamming Summon Small Mammals, tentacle-grappling things, and furpiling them to death. Oh, naked, because octopodes cannot into armour.

That crazy v0.10.

Yo, a bunch of bros from the other /tg/ are trying to fix 40K in an attempt to wrench the fandom from GW's incompetent, money-grubbing, Marine handjobbing paws.

Any of ya'll are welcome to help out, we've got quite a lot done so far and have much more to discuss.

This is not an urge that is uncommon, I think. Though how far the project gets beyond the initial storm of activity varies. I have been vaguely following this instance:

Animal Forest is a graphical MUD inspired by books like Redwall, about animal people in a forest. There is an original setting, but I don't know where the information is hosted anymore. It's a very fun, RP-encouraged game with a good deal of complexity and fun magic/crafting systems.

Okay, why hasn't there been a tabletop RPG made about these? I mean there's Persona, but that's a video game. Who would be interested in a tabletop game involving the creations of tulpae for the sake of battling an ancient conspiracy?

For those unaware, a tulpa is essentially thought made sentient, and is part of Tibetian mysticism. Basically an imaginary friend that you actually see, though obviously it can't interact with anyone but you.

I don't really care if the system is new or uses an existing system (maybe only tulpae can gain levels in d20, or perhaps it's a NWoD system modification). As long as it takes this interesting idea to a tabletop game near me, I think I'll be happy.

Pic related, it's a tulpa out of Mage the Awakening, pg 233 on a PDF.

I remember reading something about a monk making a snake of light from a pair of gongs to scare away bandits...
I would mix in some Jojo's Bizarre Adventures for spice.
No. 8767 ID: 533c7a

actually yeah, jojo had the stands which were pretty similar. they took orders from their masters but were also characters of the story in and of themselves.
No. 8768 ID: e5c426

I think the only ones that spoke were Dragon's Dream and Spice Girl and a few others...

As for system, I'd say avoid having the tulpae be all of the heavy hitting, and I'm trying to think of a reasonable way to work multiples but not coming up with anything.
I agree, though, this sounds awesome. You have the guy with the not-star-platinum that can do brain surgery via punching, you have the dude with the thing that's just invisible and intangible but it can make people go insane, you have the dude that is thoroughly convinced he has excalibur and it's speaking to him, you have the guy that just got the ability to see all this shit and be able to punch it.

And the dude that makes evil flesheating butterflies from the sounds of the bells he wears.

And the dude that can shoot memory leeches through eye contact.

And the guy that draws snakes that come to life and catch on fire.

I'm pretty sure Tulpas are in Enter the Shadowside.

I don't really have enough cute/rat/dogbolds to warrant their own folder, but thanks for the outsider suggestion.

I'm not sure I have that many slimes, but I'll see.
