this is not hard to understand unless you're an idiot.

by saying "guns aren't good at stabbing something" you show that you've probably never even held a real gun in your life, let alone an old time percussion rifle that was designed with bayonet fighting in mind.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5dl3FEWrTg&feature=related
link is Russian bayonet fighting. you are a fool to think guns can't handle that kind of combat.

you are nothing more than a dumbass whose only fighting this for its own sake, and I'm not wasting anymore posts on you.

>>
No. 9517 ID: 718d88

okay, so what kind of military forces do all the races have?

most common soldier?
favorite weapon?
normal battle style?
any of them have special names?

A bayonet is not a spear. A bayonet is a small blade that's the equivolent of a knife at the end of the spear. A bayonet will do nothing against an armored opponent.

>>
No. 9540 ID: 87583b

Okay kiddies.

One: When we last left the Unified Setting, only Goblins had the tech to make guns, nobody else. Arrows are still the better choice for 99% of the world due to costs, technology involved and everything else, plus a bullet of the kind we're talking about here (single shot round ball) won't pierce plate-mail whereas an arrow will, and you can fire arrows far more easily without having to take four minutes to reload. Now you can still carry six pistols with you, but what's the point when they don't pierce armor and bows/crossbows are just plain easier for the adventurer to handle?

As for gun-spears, I don't think so. The sergals don't seem like a very tech friendly race or even magic friendly race.

Ah, that's another point. Why make a spear that shoots bullets while weakening the overall structure of it when you can just enchant it to shoot fireballs?

Unless the other hand is holding a shield.

>>WHO THE FUCK IS REFLUFFING?

You, apparently. Bringing in guns and deciding by your lonesome how the indigenous personnel will react to it.

>>you've probably never even held a real gun in your life

OH BURN. Or not, since have held and fired more than one real gun. And a spear.

>>I'm not wasting anymore posts on you.

A likely story.

This is a side thing that Major Max is doing- He likes guns so he's giving them to everyone.

That said.
>>9517
Usual, or with guns?
Usual, I think it's something like (Main units only)
Raiders/skirmishers/stealth - Gnolls (Cover of Night), Goblins (Short green vikings), Wila (Positioning is everything), Sergals (for the Chryssalid defense)
Footsloggan/Legions/Mobs - Humans (especially Baetica), Kobolds (No order, just going in the same direction with enthusiasm), Dorfs (Bricks)
Cavalry/outriders/etc. - Sidhe (Triple-Elite knights), Wila again (LOBSTERS)

Can't figure out where to put the Toltecatl or Doobies. I mean, they must have resisted the Empire a little, at least, but how?

does anyone use any special names for their soldiers?

like hoplites, triarii, samurai, dog warriors, ect.?

>>

Dunno.
That reminds me though, the Corgyn would have levees of troops; each village would be expected to donate a set number of soldiers, overseen by a council of the leaders of all the villages involved.

Weapon:
Faestir: Lances, spears, crossbows, and probably whatever they can scavenge out of the ruins.
Corgyn: Shortbows, shortswords and shields, and luck.
Doobies: ... Fuck if I know. Warspoons? Hooked Hammers?
DORFS: Hammers, Axes, Beefy-ass swords, Picks, etc.
Gnolls: Anything looted, probably no specialised racial weapons that aren't tools.
Goblins: Cutlasses! Guns?! Ballistae! Endless Knives!
Humans: Divided up later by faction. For now, Baetica needs hammers and sickles, Solaris needs big shiny shields, and Gorgossa needs khopeshes or something.
Kobolds: Um... Rocks?
Toltecatl: Spears, weird swords, and buggered-up exotic weapons. Also nets.
Sergals: SPEARSPEARSPEAR with a minority of double-sword.
Sidhe: BOWSBOWSBOWS, SWORDSSWORDSSWORDS, and PRACTICEPRACTICEPRACTICE.
Wila: Daggers, crossbows, spring crossbows, or whatever deity-weapon.

>>
No. 9548 ID: df409a

>>9517
Style
Faestir: Hiding, first, then hit and run. Instead of sergal use of GIANT LANDS, they use rain and fog.
Corgyn: One insolent warrior with really good reflexes taunts them into ambush, then ARROWED.
Doobies: Trust in their unique superiority to pull nurglish tactics.
DORFS: Bricks. Blocks of heavy-armor dorfs.
Gnolls: Hide all day, skirmish all night.
Goblins: VIKING POWAH
Humans: Divided up later by faction. For now, Baetica needs MANSMANSMANS, Solaris needs kniggits, and Gorgossa needs quick cavalry.
Kobolds: MOBMOBMOB
Toltecatl: SPELLSPELLSPELLS
Sergals: Skirmish and land use.
Sidhe: ARROWSARROWSARROWS then CHARGANFULLATTACK
Wila: One, they've failed by it getting this far. In which case, where are your supply trains?

>>
No. 9549 ID: df409a

>>9517
Elites
Faestir: The Vaess uth Bahamut, or the Arrows.
Corgyn: Beserkers. Bronze weapons, piles of charms, and magic.
Doobies: EVERY DOOBIE IS ELITE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
DORFS: Hammers and Anvils. The former wears heavy armor and ride rhinos. The other wears superheavy armor and ENDURES.
Gnolls: Warleaders?
Goblins: Enders. Specialised undead hunters.
Humans: Divided up later by faction.
Kobolds: Leader?
Toltecatl: Doorkeepers of Rs. Immovable war-casters.
Sergals: Too many to count. General rule is ornateness of armor.
Sidhe: EVERY SIDHE IS ELITE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT
Wila: We don't ahve any of those at all. Now, would you be interested in buying some of these jewels?

We need one of these for magic, too.

>>
No. 9616 ID: d6b212

>>9549
Magic organisations
Faestir: The Dancers and the College of War.
Corgyn: Minor Wisemen and Feylocks.
Doobies: ???
DORFS: Magi-Generals, the Council, and the Wise Guild.
Gnolls: Shamans.
Goblins: The Hunters in the Dark, and the Preservers. The latter studies necromancy to better counter it.
Humans: Divided up later by faction. Aurelia gets PRIESTS PRIESTS PRIESTS, for certain.
Kobolds: Smartest one in clan?
Toltecatl: Too many to count. Ruled by Archivists.
Sergals: Part of the Experts Division, along with engineers, sculptors, etc. Have supremacy in their field of study, but only then.
Sidhe: Lifewardens (druids who make sure lifewarping doesn't go too far) and the Invisible College (Floating crystal castle that trains wizards.)
Wila:Very few, mostly in raider groups as a counter to casters they might find.
Low chance of random magic in Sidhe, Sergals and Wila.
High chance of random magic in Kobolds, Humans, and Toltecatl.

They can't ALL be in the military. Even North Korea doesn't have 100% recruitment.

They should have a slave race, like the Spartans. Maybe they're enslavers as well?

>>
No. 9641 ID: ebf8f1

>>9637
Well, we know they conquered the southern sergals, but the spartans had nine slaves for every citizen. And that was wholly untenable.

It doesn't really fit, if you ask me.

Can't we just assume they have guys who AREN'T in the military? They can be really militaristic while still not all being in the army.

>>

Southern Sergals.

>>9634
Well, they didn't have anything but tribal up to that point...
I can see it being a government thing, and the military handily controls the government.
Either way, the Military can request the use of experts from the government.

>>

For some reason, I am fascinated by the thought of having sergals whipping long lines of chained cutebolds...

>>
No. 9647 ID: 87583b

Nah, the sergals definitely have non-military citizens. It's just, those who have served in the military or make a life out of it are seen as higher class citizens.

Maybe they have to enlist before they can vote, Starship Troopers style? Wait, who are we kidding, they don't vote, the governor-general and the heads of the clans decide everything...

I just imagined a bureaucracy run by horrendous raptor/shark/wolves.
The mental image is quite amusing, whether it comes out to a sergal sitting in dusty tomes and scrolls with a pince-nez, or practical exams involving not being clawed to death by the examiner.

>>

>>9657
Or the knights and lords are the ones in charge. Feudalism.

You don't want to stop lessers from marrying, because you want them to continue breeding, or spit on them, because you need them to want to JOIN the military rather than hate it, and you need them to build equipment and stuff.

This. Though moving up or down in class happens through the military.

Disgraced? Down to peasantry with you. Kill more bird people than anyone else? Maybe you'll be knighted.

So, Sergal peasants... what do they do? Herd cattle? I can't see Sergals munching on bread.

Lots of herding, yeah.
It's unclear from the US fluff whether it's bullettes with suck, horses, or cows, though.

And no, probably very little bread, if any at all.
...
I just had a mental image of a sergal baker.
Chef's hat and everything.
Wielding one of those pizza paddles like a longspear.

>>
No. 9674 ID: ebf8f1

In the US, the sergals have a LOT of territory. Even if it's just grasslands, they could support quite a ton of cows. If they don't drink milk, horses, or some fantasy animal, would work just as well.

Nah, but we do need a tordek and mialee of sorts.

We need to give them all names, really. One for each race. Well, one for each of the more popular races. We need a sergal, a corgi, a token human, a drow, a cutebold (driblis?) etc.

How hard could it be? Signature characters are generally pretty generic.

Fascist Sergal fighter, stout and noble Corgi cleric, awkward Cutebold sorceror or rogue, human pally with dreadlocks, etc...

Except that the Mensala badlands has pretty much all of the races in it fighting as mercenaries anyways. If explanation is needed beyond that, they went to Lindwurm in search of Draconian artifacts, where they met Elves, Dwarves, and kobolds (who are somewhat infrequent mercenaries)
