Before that other thread gets filled with porn...

You know you play it, /tg/chan. What's your Pokemon pal pad number thing? It's time to start some breedan, trainan, battlan on this board.

Also, if you have PBR, post that too.

In the meantime, I'd suggest you talk about the current party and playstyle you use. I tend to favor Double Battles because it's less over-analyzed like the main game and you can get away with a larger variety of teams there. Plus, the Eeveelutions rock at it, and I love those guys.

And then, if you absolutely must post poke-girls, I guess you can do that here, though it will NOT help the board's reputation in the least. At least to start, let's keep things tasteful maybe.

All I have is bootlegs on emulators and a copy of Blue and Red.
Too busy paying off car to purchase new handhelds.

Pokemon is great.

Though sometimes, I wonder why Japan loves Lucario so much.

That said, how to justify this as a /tg/ thread?

Pokemon is more than ten years old and in it's fourth generation, or "edition."

Traditional game? Most likely.

LOLOL BATON PASS EDITION

Ahem, couldn't resist.
Here's a question.
Using the general structure of the gmes, how would you justify a party of characters in the Pokemon universe?

Mystery Dungeon Campaign Setting or Standard Johto/Kanto/Hoen/Sinnoh?

That is exactly why I play double battles.

Played a little into Mystery Dungeon, seemed like a reflavored roguelike.
That one's easy enough, so the other.

All players but one play pokemon, max seven players and a DM. Battles take place one on one for Gym and official battles, but for others they occur more like in the show, with multiple pokemon out at any time. This is usually for battles against Rockets and wild pokemon, of course.

The pokemon all have the means of communicating with their trainer through either powers or a PokeDEX/PokeGEAR/Poketch built in translator, and of course can communicate among themselves. Each could have a unique backstory, how did they come into the ownership of the trainer? Were they a gift? Did they join willingly? Are they bitter about not joining willingly, or are they now accepting of it and loyal?

It has potential for some awkward moments, but I'd say it's doable.

Wasn't there a BESM supplement about this?

No idea. If there was, I'd like to see it.

Though I just realized how disturbing a game like the one I described above would be if applied to the pokegirls fan-setting.

There was.

One of the suggestions in the book was to play fightin' monsters leading a Spartacus-like uprising of the fight-for-our-amusement monsters. That'd be pretty cool.

Cute and Fuzzy Seizure Monsters.

And I was thinking more along the lines of each player plays a trainer, with simply statted critters to fling about.
The other perspective would be better for the roguelike thing.

Six pokeymans for each trainer keeping track of the emotions, stats, moves, looks, etc of each is going to be ridiculous. Each person would play seven characters that may or may not get along with each other. I don't like it.

Hence 'Simplified'.
Attacks, characterisation, and maybe some stats for Encourageability and Like/dislike trainer.

I think I'd get a seriously guilty pleasure out of playing as a pokemon in one of these. Especially if I had to answer to a trainer...

Hey, uh, actually, I was thinking about doing a Poké... thing... of one or another sort before too long. Although, uh, I haven't really played a Pokémon game since somewhere around Silver version (at least, not past the first gym or two), so, uh, I could probably use a few pointers as to what's changed since then.

(That and I'm busy working on a coherent universe to put the story in instead of thinking up everything right before it happens.)

Go ahead and pirate and play through Platinum. It's the best thing since G/S/C.

Basically, Apricots are gone, there are now Berries, be sure to brush up on the 200 or so new pokemon since Silver, and there are Double Battles, which are official 2 on 2 pokemon battles that occur once in a while, the main game is still one on one.

If you just want to get a look at all the new pokemon, Serebii.net has a good pokedex on there.

Well, um... how do I put this... I like the games, but I was never exactly good at them, so playing through all of the games released since Silver (or indeed even just one representative of each generation), well... it could very well take a while. ... ._.

I guess I could still read up on stuff, at least.
