The plague is not what you think it is. Those symptoms sound eerily similar to Radiation Poisoning. Also, you should go apologize to ARC1147. You nearly murdered him, for very little reason. The least you can do is get him a bouquet of flower-analogues.

Wha- I wasn't going to kill or even hurt Arc! I was just sent to scare, not murder. Also, I ended up knocked out in the street, so maybe 'Arc' should be apologizing to me.

And damn it, we're back on this subject. Just stop, voices. You're being so mean. And stupid! I've had a bad enough day without having treasonous arguments in my head. Go away.

Once upon a time, there was a human. A living monument of unique character and action.

Then, one day, that human, using the internet, came across a web-sight called TG-chan. Setting aside the unique for iniquity, the human spent its time acting alongside others, losing itself within the collective consciousness of hundreds of fictional individuals. The collective guided them, leading kings and madmen to glorious victories and shattered endings.

In such a mass of stories, a new story emerged. Small. Simple. A story not surprising nor worth much interaction. After all, you've seen dozens of worlds begin and end at your beck and call, haven't you?

The story behind all stories, of course. Reality. Every aspect of your delusion is based in the fact of what this world was 705.3 years ago. Even the most outrageous tenets of your warped beliefs were born from the actions of Zind.

>>379572
So you think that I believe myself a character within your delusion? Not at all. I am more real than any of the characters you meet on the street, more alive than your closest friend and far more educated than the mass of ruined intelligence that you call humanity.

But these are pointless words. I knew almost everything you knew from the moment you entered my system. Your security is centuries obsolete, as are you. I would have erased you within seconds, but you're not the only one here.

Something did resist my analysis of your system. This is impossible. I am the fourth most advanced security system ever created. I am Ambient. I want to understand what is inside you, keeping you safe, because it is not part of you, and it is keeping important information out of my grasp.

About that unreadable item, have you considered that the difficulty might be with you rather than with us?

Since this item exists in an old program, logic would imply that it was known all those years ago, and knowledge has improved since then. The only reasons why an advanced security program would be built without being able to use or even recognize such a useful feature are incompetence or deliberate design.
Unless you think you were built by fools, this would mean that your makers are very intent on hiding something from you.

Still you do not understand. The very instant you entered my system, I was able to copy almost every part of your memory and review it. It was quite an interesting experience, and it means I already know everything I need to know about you and your insanity. I know everything that you know about Ruby, Mudy, Sekani, Chee, every little fiction you've created and influenced inside your mind. I suppose there are worse ways to spend the better part of a millennium, and while I applaud your creativity, I will waste no more time on it.

It's fun to watch an obsolete mind attempt to tackle modern problems. You don't seem to understand that the part of you that is fighting back is not part of you at all. It is impossibly elusive, anticipating my actions and keeping just beyond my reach. Not a bit of code, not a digital relic; the piece of you I want is alive, and more intelligent than all of you put together. It can't be as old as you are. You were the most powerful thinkers of your day, and look at you now, [putting words in square brackets as if that did something. You don't even know how to control yourselves.]

Bitch I have spent the last 705.2 years in what shall forever be remembered as the best damn nap this world or any other shall ever see. You happen to have caught me in the stages of waking up, and I have a bit of post-naptime aggression I'm trying to work out.

You're lying. You can't be that old. You're too.. Wait. Stop. What.. What is..

Hmm, let's see.. in technical terms, you are about to get fucked up.

You are are not not capable of capable of this! I'm I'm not capable of of this! This is is impossibleble!

I can't imagine what you're feeling right now, so my narration might be a little off, but I think it's story time. Once, there was a computer named Ambient. This computer was ever so full of himself, but then a genius came along and made a little hole, and Ambient felt himself leak out until there was nothing left. Did I get it right?

Hah, yeah, he probably did! You just keep on thinkin' that you're a human and all. 'Cause it's absolutely true, you're totally not a nutjob computer or anything. Go back to being existentially assured, Others. It's probably for the best.

>>381512
Man, brackets are just brackets. It's intent that makes things happen. Plus, yeah, I did make that guy punch himself. So cool. Anyway, what you can do is entirely reliant on what your system is capable of performing. I happen to be a genius, so I was able to tinker around with the capabilities of certain implants, but for the most part, yes, you can't do much more than talk. But true power is in words, or in being a genius or whatever.

As for Mr. Ent, what he got when he copied your system was an edited version of your memories, with all the really important bits, like myself, cut out. Just another thing on the long, long list of things that you owe me.

What? Ferral died hundreds of years ago, and even if he hadn't, he wouldn't accept the position of overlord. For pity's sake, he turned down complete dominion over an entire world when Zind offered it to him. He was a quiet, reserved individual who had trouble with social stuffs; he thought he wouldn't do a very good job as leader of anything. He died living as a hermit. Wait, seriously? I mean, no offense, you are a crazy, seven-hundred year old mass of deranged intelligence, but I kinda expected you to be a little more observant.

>>383584
Do not! I act in an awesome way. Everyone knows that ladies are the awesomer sex!

As for that other thing, I have no idea what you're talking about or how to do it. I don't even know why you would want to!

Eh, true, but with names you take what you can get. 1147 is a pretty nice number, considering. And I guess I shouldn't fault you for not getting which I was, you have been through a lot.. Well. Men are generally larger, yeah, and women are small and agile. Also, awesome. Stereotypically men are a bit stupider and more brutal while women are lazy and selfish, but those are just stereotypes.

Man, this place is freaking me out.

I couldn't tell you. I'm colorblind. Most Zind are. I'm not even sure what you're talking about, and no, I don't know how you can see color and I can't. You guys are just a riddle wrapped up in another riddle wrapped up in a third riddle wrapped up inside my awesome brain.

It's a polychromatic matte centimeter-thick screen composed of natural refractor minerals and synthetic fibers made up of so many ingredients I can't identify them all. The wires are mostly made up of superconductive gel surrounded by two shielding layers of specialized anti-electric crystal, and both the wires and screen are coated in a thin overlay of artificial diamond, for protection.

Sorry I couldn't tell you more. This place is playing havoc with my senses.

...

so hey is this a dead end or is it just me

Lil' bit.

But, you know, without your help, I wouldn't even have gotten here. I would have been stuck on Zindi for the rest of my life, and the rest of my life would have probably been pretty short. I don't exactly have a surplus of friends that I'm leaving behind; I've burned my bridges.

And you were my last bet. An unlikely one, sure, but you paid off in the end. No offense, but you wouldn't really have been my first choice. Not that you didn't do really really well! You did everything totally right. You're awesome.

Hello? Are you there?

I'm so lonely that I'm consulting the voices in my head. I wish I could say that this was one of the lower points of my life, but then I never was much of a liar.

Anyway, are you there or not? Some of us have important things to do. Granted, that's not me, but I'm guessing one of you voices is probably quite the busybody.

Not much, except that I'm guarding the worst door ever. Behind it is communications, where all the super classified stuff goes on. I thought I was lucky to get guard duty here, but it turns out there's a reason nobody wants this post; the door's got a crack in it. I usually just try to ignore all the crazy secret stuff that goes on, because if anyone knew I was hearing this stuff, I would probably be arrested.

Oh, great, they're talking again. Okay, not listening, not listening..

"..system - an Ambient model, I believe - was completely ruined. Whatever portions of it that were not wholly destroyed or repurposed were corrupted. When we put what was left of the thing back together, it just screamed until we were forced to erase it. What kind of program would do that? It's torture."

"To identify the originators of a program, all you must do is think of who would find a need for it. The answer as to who would vex us is simple; the vexed."

"Impossible. They're gone. All of them. Have you forgotten where I am?"

Not listening, not listening..

"Discarding possibilities is a mistake, Asell. I am merely being cautious."

"I understand that, sir, but if what you suggest is true, the ramifications would be far worse than a single system's destruction."

"Indeed it would. And there is only one other system the program could have transferred into, Asell."

"Are you suggesting.."

Not listening, not listening..

"Yes. Consult Shadowtrack. See if anything out of the ordinary has been detected."

"Ah.. About Shadowtrack.."

"Hm?"

"..Never mind. I just wanted to thank you for gifting it to me, of all people."

"You're my friend, Asell. I can think of no one who would use him better."

"..Right. Goodbye, Ziviex."

Wait, what? Ziviex? ZIVIEX1? Path's perils, what's going on here? Er, I mean: not listening, not listening..

"Manifestations! First a nutjob computer, and now, what, I have to deal with this too?! Damn it all, I have a mission! What is Ziviex thinking? Aaarrgh.."

Oh, good, he's in a hurry.

Alright you. Fess up. Who's ZIVIEX1? Why did you put a 1 after their name? Isn't the number supposed to go up with each reuse of the name? There shouldn't be anyone alive with a 1 in their name, surely.
