It's dark.

Light streams in through the window. Tired eyes stare out of it; despite the light being at a blinding level, they do not look away.

Shit.

"Well, I kind of wrapped a rock in a mask and chucked it at you--"
>"WHAT? Why the hell did you do that?"
"No, I was just doing it for fun, see! That voice told me to do it--"
>"Voice? What, is it telling you to slit my neck open? Toss me to the zombies?"
"Calm down! I didn't realize my own strength; you're just weak!"

He looks like he wants to retort, but the burger seems to be more pleasurable than arguing.

>"...I'd probably be dead is you didn't come along. So I forgive you."

Thank god. A rocky start, but it's smoothing out.

Sam's stomach knots at the thought that he'd leave after that stupid, impulsive action. Maybe she can bribe him with the knowledge of this huge store with medicine, clothing, food, entertainment, even a corner with guns and hunting knifes.

"There's a lot here. Like, Advil and Aspirin, Tylenol, tons of vitamins and other medical stuff including tooth brushes and deodorant!"

Axel's eyes perk up at this. Sam keeps going.

"Tons of clothes and shoes! Upstairs there's a mattress compartment so we have beds and blankets and pillows! Lots of food, too-that hamburger is one of the hundreds stocked up. I got a generator working in the freezer where they store meat so it lasts. Fruit's mostly bad already, but stuff like carrots and apples and things are still good for another week maybe. And the preserved foods!"

Axel's eyes are wide with the images presented, but now they get a heavenly look.

"Canned food, candy, chips--a literal shit ton! We'd survive years, you and me!"

At this point, her desperation seeps into her voice that she wants Axel to stay. He notices, and glances at her thoughtfully.

>"...Would we let others in?"

>"We could do searches of the neighborhood and stuff! Leave little bundles of food in 'safe points', where we make it obvious that it's been cleared! Like, a mark or something."

He looks so intent talking about this-he really wants to help.

It makes her wonder if he lost someone close to him, to feel the need to protect others.

A tiny bundle of guilt taps her stomach; she only wanted someone near her so she wasn't alone. Not to protect them to the end.

Alright. First order of business then. If he's fed and uninjured from our kind of accidentally throwing a rock into his head (dang, we missed the obvious excuse) we should see about getting him a proper weapon. So he fares better against the next bunch of Zoms. Kinda necessary if he wants to search for survivors.

The only melee weapon better than a hatchet for zombie apocalypse is a crowbar, so go with that. Give him a gun if he knows how to use it.

You said that everything would become ruins eventually regardless of how much humans fought; does that mean these zombies don't decay/ everyone becomes a zombie when they die whether bitten or not? [Do you know santova? You have the exact same ID.]

He wants to walk around and scope the place out.

Axel jumps off the couch and grabs the gun that you had pulled out of his bag, saying that he wanted it just in case. That's a good idea; Sam grabs her sword and fit the sheath on.

The reason she said that is because no one will be around to clean things up-everything will crumble without being cared for, the bodies of the zombies will continue to rot away-and maybe die on their own, starvation, maybe?

Sam doesn't know for sure. As for the turning, all she knows so far is biting transfers the disease-it kills you, and within the hour you wake again as a monster.

She hadn't found anyone to see if dying in general turned them. Hopefully she wouldn't figure that out soon, or in any amount of time.

She shivers visibly, then turns back to Axel.

"How are you feeling? Your head, I mean."
>"It hurts, but I think I'm fine. Calmer now that I have good food in my stomach."

She gives a curt nod in response.

They begin to walk around in a more aimless matter, reaching the food section.

Sam starts the small talk and quickly learns:

-They both lived at this town, and have talked before at this same store as Samantha used to work here
-Axel played many zombie video games and they seem to be useless in preparing seeing as he was freaking out
-He's a sucker for chick-flicks and his favorite movie is FREE WILLIE
-He's only FIVE FOOT TWO tall

From Sam, he learned:

-She's 19 years old
-FIVE FOOT SIX tall
-She was a GIRL SCOUT and passed the highest rank
-She played the same video games he did and turned out a lot better than him
-She took martial arts and fencing classes
-She's basically a BAMF and revealed no soft side or sweet stuff and bragged about her nearly reaching black belt and beating everyone in the classes up

Sam asks him and he gets an embarrassed expression.

>"Not really...I guess I can scout? I'm good at hiding, and I'm really fast."

He reveals how rather skimpy and weak he is, but that running is in his blood at the least. He can handle guns with little recoil better than anything else.

She asks if he wants a crowbar and he responds that that will probably work better than his hatchet, so yes. Sam makes a mental note to look out for one in the hardware section.

You seem to be pretty well off here, is there anything you need other than other survivors? Let him know it's cool to be a scout, he'd be the most useful person to have if they ever have to get around/through/distract a large group of zombies. (as long as he can keep his head that is)

Both of them stop up on the second floor where the bed compartment is. It's really wide open and Axel says he'd rather drag some beds down to the staff room than sleep in the open.

Sam agrees, feeling a shiver up her spine.

She relays that he should get better dressed to protect himself, but that instead of using the water supply that the store uses interdependently rather than the tap that the rest of the town uses, that in stead of showering they should use babywipes or something. The water is best used for water and boiling food.

It's hardly mid-day,and from what Sam can guess, around 11 AM.

She's taken the store, but tons of other stores are around that could be looted.

She can't decide whether to take Axel on a LOOTING MISSION or to SEARCH FOR SURVIVORS.

That's true, they do--But the other voice has a point. Axel needs to sleep.

Sam tells him that, saying he still looks exhausted. He realizes this is true, not having realized beforehand due to the excitement of being here.

Try not to talk to Mal while Sam is there. While he may have heard us(the voices) for a bit, he'll probably think of it as an effect of just being really really tired. Why should I listen to the all of you?

Axel heads out the room and I follow him. It's easy to pull the mattress in with his help, and we prop it into a corner.

[I mixed up the names, sorry.]

Because we have good advice most of the time? We haven't actually been that useful. I guess you are free to ignore us, but most of what we tell you is stuff you would(or should) already do.

Yeah, we're basically just extra thinkers. We help you come up with ideas and plans maybe faster than you would on your own. We're here to help! (mostly!) And we're pretty transparent, and we don't come with our own agenda or nothing.

Creepy cat dude though... definitely got something going on.

I suppose you guys are right. Everything you say is backed by logic-I'll trust you.

I head up stairs, noticing that Mal has re-materialized. He completely ignored the quest of what he wants, what he's doing-I want to ask him again, but I'm a little afraid.

Sam, I can listen to your personal thoughts as well. Do not forget. I don't know what else to tell you, other than what I have. I will guide you through ~everything. If they tell you to do something, and I tell you different...You know who to listen to, hmm?

...Yeah.

...and why should she trust you more than us? We're disembodied outsiders, here. We have no stake in this. No angle to play. The only interest we have to work for is hers. And our own amusement, I suppose.

You however, exist (at least partially) in Sam's world. That means you have your own interest to act in. And what's in your best interest may not coincide with Sam's!

So how about you tell us what your game is? Knowing that would go a long way towards building trust.

So Mal, can you actually touch anything or can you only suggest like the rest of us?

>Make me some dinner
That's a rude way of asking. Guess who doesn't get dessert tonight! Have you had the voices for a long time, or just since today/yesterday?

"Hey! I dragged him to safety, made him his own meal, and brought him down a bed. I think he'll be fine with making me something. And...A few days before this all started. It began as whispers."

>So how about you tell us what your game is? Knowing that would go a long way towards building trust.
How much must I say it? I am only here to assist...Same as you.
As for interacting with the world, I cannot-I exist only in Samantha's mind. I suppose if I were to touch her, though, her body would react through psychosomatic means-if I, say, shoved her, she would fall down though anyone else wouldn't be able to tell.

Don't get pissed at him, he's had a long day(probably) and didn't mean it like that; I meant it more as a let him know once you are done cooking. If you want to be mad at him, make him help cook and give him the boring parts.(peeling potatoes) That way, you can get him to learn where things are in the kitchen for when you make him cook next time without him having to fumble for 20/30 minutes.(which should be the next meal)

I don't trust Mal, but that's probably because he was born of pain and sounds creepy. We don't have much of a reason to trust him, but why shouldn't we? I mean, if what he says is true, and he only lives in her head, her probably wants to keep her alive, at least so he can have a host. Also who's making dinner right now?

Born OF pain? Do not discredit me so; I was indeed THE pain. I had to...Knock around her brain a little so that I could properly interact with Sam.

Axel is currently making dinner.

Not helping your case buddy. Sam maybe you outta take it easy for the night, relax, take in this whole "Mal" thing. Axel is already unsure of your sanity, so not mentioning the black-out-inducing-pain-monster-who's-name-literally-means-bad, is a good idea for now. But once he starts to trust you, maybe after a raid or two, he outta know

When you take a rest, put on a blindfold; this should stop you from seeing him shove you which would actually stop him from pushing/shoving you. In this case, seeing is believing, and that belief can hurt.
It should only work if she thinks it will though, on the basis that if she thinks Mal touching her won't cause her pain, she won't react with pain. Since he is only able to touch her in a psychosomatic manner.

nice... now sam has not only us contradicting each other but also Mal with which we are happily distrusting each other...

Also Mal, it doesn't really help her for you to be so clingy...

Let's all settle down a bit, relax and try to survive a bit...

I suggest we first try to do something about this survivor/looting/zombie deal and become a bit more familiar with each other.

Also, you are doing a horrible job of convincing her Mal. I mean, you could have waited until she was used to you and sure of telling him, then you could have convinced her to put it off until tomorrow. (and the one after that and so on)

I'm sorry for being so...Direct with that, Sam. Just understand I am here for your best intentions.

As for you others...I grow tired of arguing! I'll leave for now, but only because the situation doesn't need me. Lead her on to find survivors...Whatever you must.

Better; now all you have to do is help her with any big problems that arise and earn her trust that you are actually there to help.

Take a breather, Sam. Voices having an argument in your head is always a strain on the mind. Since you took a martial arts class, they should've taught you some meditation exercises. Try one of those out while you wait for dinner to be finished.
