A tale in what remains of the world of Htobbura. In this island miles above the sea, a small area of habitable land is home to a stranger who is very strange. at all times, his mind can hear the dead, and all they do is give him advice. that's it, just advice, or, what they believe is advice.
He is almost alone in this world, or maybe he's not almost anything at all. It's barely a story.

The world almost ends in 72 hours. what is your advice?

[to give commands, say "My advice is" at the start of your post.]

what's the point of all this. what am I here for?

"you are here because you wanted to stay alive"

but I'm alone.

"not really."

..wait did you say Flying island?

"not really, but about that. i was going to keep this a surprise until tomorrow but, we need to make a balloon."

what is a balloon? I heard it a few times but I don't know what it is.

"it's a bag of steam, a big one."

you wonder about why she is doing all this. she tells you it's because she wants you to stay alive until the world ends, to see it. all the robots want someone to see the world end. it only happens once, you know. when it's all over, in 60 hours, if you are still alive, then they did a good job. they just want to do a good job.
>>
No. 594130 ID: 9ddf68

uh kay, want to see if you can find a way into the volcano again? I man if you have any spare robots maybe you can dig a way into the volcano that lets you avoid the lava cause after hearing Einnob's story I think they're might actually be other people in there and they're using the volcano to protect themselves from people who'd try and take there city. Even if it's just a red haring you still might find more robots to help Einnob build whatever it is she wants to build.
>>
No. 594131 ID: 8b533b

Well, she's done a good job helping you. You can't deny that!

Let's see about engineering a giant, volcano-powered hot air balloon.

Einnob advises you to go to bed, 10 hours pass. when you wake up, you hear a loud crashing sound. the small peak of Steaming Mountain collapses in a blaze. you just stand there. just looking at it. this land is getting so small.
it's kinda sad really.
>>
No. 594133 ID: 9ddf68

>his land is getting so small. it's kinda sad really.
and yet Einnob just stands there... staring at you. Thank god that isn't creepy or anything. but yeah can you see anything new now that part of the mountain fell away or is it still just rock and lava?

Einnob seems awfully happy. She says the tower is done, and the plating is also done. we just have to harvest all the buried trees and turn it into paper or something so we can make the balloon. also we found lots and lots of Potatos and Milkweed, so we made you breakfast. don't worry sir! we got this covered.
you ask her if she found anyone. she says she's extra happy about what she has to show you.

"yes, this is the real me, the real Einnob. I found her deep deep in the mines, where the small peak used to be. we are connected. every robot is connected to who they used to be. but. she's the only one who hasn't drowned yet, I'm still alive, but, I'm scared to wake up, because then I won't be useful for you."
>>

huh, and in what less then 60 hours it's just going to be you, her, and an army of robots, nothing else well be here except for the endless sea and sky.

Ask what will happen to her robot body if she "wakes up"? will it just stop working or what?

you are so pretty, you say. you put your head on her chest in frustration, you ask when will she wake up. 1.5 days she says, when the world ends.
You really just can't wait. you ask, will she remember everything, she says yes, we are connected after all.

you cry a little.

you are starting to feel impatient.
you want this over with, you want to be completely sustainable and have a good life NOW but apperently you have to wait until the end of the world, it's so frustrating. 1st you are running out of time, now you have too much time. what is there to do? everything is going to be boring!
>>

>what is there to do? everything is going to be boring!
Can't we make something to do? We haven't tried anything that isn't exploring or mining or building.

>I'm still alive, but, I'm scared to wake up, because then I won't be useful for you
Can she go back to sleep again after waking up? Why will she stop being useful- because she won't be able to build things as a robot? Will we still be able to command the other, robots?

don't worry. it will be over soon, you still have one sleep time to go to. and, hey, we can explore around more until the balloon is finished and filled up, the robots are done with the plating, now they are just building stuff around the bottom to.. idk.. make it more fancy, and bigger. and.. ..um... better...

I advise you stop thinking of Einnob's robot body as not a real person. Her real body is controlling the robot, right? And she'll remember everything? So what's the difference?

Also, 1.5 days? But 60 hours is 2.5 days. Wait, shouldn't it be like 53 hours? Perhaps a bit less than that, perhaps 50 hours is the correct time. That's just over 2 days.

Oh, do you have a farm or something for food?

I think the clock says 47 hours are left.

and don't think of it being the end when your time is up Donnie, think of it as a new beginning. I know that line is a bit cheesy but still if the robots finish there flying island project in time then you have all the time you need to make your life what you want it to be.

Also if you don't mind me asking, why where you all alone on this island, how did you get here?

Don't worry about this stuff, we came a long way. we are almost done.

when I wake up. lets start a new world, okay? I'll help you even if I'm not as useful as the robots anymore.

she said.

you already start missing this place. watching the island rot fills you with dread. you hear cracking. your gut feeling terrifies you.

if you are wondering how they will fill the balloon, they have pipes siphoning off the steam from the mountain.

you keep hearing the ghosts, why are you here? why were you alone. you hear this. and you don't know, you don't remember anything before you woke up on the 1st day. all you know is, you are one an island that is vanishing. you don't even know if the timer is accurate, you don't know anything. how do these robots know the exact time the world is ending. wait. how did you know? what are the clues, you know as time goes on pieces of the island fall. so... what's so spectacular about the last hour? the whole thing just drops down like nothing? why are there so many questions, and why do you hear ghosts?

>>
No. 594160 ID: cfe8e5

>>594159
Compromise by only stuffing your face with the ones that don't seem like they're holding up the rest of the pile.

Also, maybe try to put some of your worries behind you while you eat. You don't know why you're here, or why you know some things, or why the world's ending, but at the same time there's no point in worrying about things you can't know. Maybe the answers will come later, when the world ends. Maybe they won't.

My advice is to do some thinking on what matters to you about this whole situation while you eat. You said earlier that you just want a sustainable life, but is that really it? Do you want answers about why everything is how it is, or can you live without them?

... early, we are early...

all you do now is contemplated. you did it, you are ready to leave at any time. but you feel it's too early. you wish you had less time. you wish the island was stable enough to explore more. but. you know it's coming. too fast and too slow, at the same time. and all this time to think about what you have have done. and how this is all possible.

it really shouldn't be.

you climb to the top, passing rooms of dirt, food, and ore. the tower is filled to the brim. you reach a floor with no ladder. Einnob is there, happy and excited.

"We can leave now!" she says, excitedly.
you ask why.
she says you really wouldn't want to be this close to the volcano when the island falls. infact we have to go now anyways, I know we only have less than 30 hours left but look. it's going to be hot, and big, and we need to go far.
you honestly thought this little green place was going to last the entire countdown? you hear it too don't you?

you are flying an entire island, incredible. you float into the sea, keeping the island level as it goes down. hoping to not sink. Einnob asks you to float as far away as you can, where the sea is more blue, it will be colder and safer there.
>>
No. 594228 ID: 9ddf68

so if she said the sea was to hot for people to live in why didn't they head to the bluer part of the sea themselves? Not criticizing or anything just trying to keep a conversation going as we head towards the new world I guess

as you watch the fiery spire in the distance, you and Einnob have a bit of a time together.

chatting away the time. and stuff.
asking, how do you know what's going to happen?
everything is just a prediction she came up with while alive- i mean awake. she wanted to be there to see it, but it was taking too long.
oh, and, we are the new world. this island is all that's left right now, but that's going to change when it happens. when the clock strikes zero. so. you tired yet?

you say no. what is there to do, we have all this time to go around the new town.

you pass out on the console. Einnob takes you downstairs, the the ground floor, gently. you wake up. Einnob is on a bench next to you.

28, 27, 25, 22, 18, 13, 6, 3.

you talked and talked, took a tour of the new town, watch the robots build new things, you saw fish for the 1st time.
on the last hour, you went back to the bench. you looked down, and wondered, what do we do after this? Einnob looked at you, smiling. "We start over" she says. "Just look now, look at the ending, put on your goggles"

Well, put your goggles on and watch the last bit of the island start to crumble away. She says
>"this island is all that's left right now, but that's going to change when it happens. when the clock strikes zero."
It may just be a direct way of saying that the island won't be left at all after zero, but it might also mean something else will happen after that. Watch and see, maybe something more will happen. I'm curious what that something will be.

you go back to your room, you look at the box were the real Einnob is. the sun is gone now, the sky, black. you are dead. or that's what it feels like. but, you are safe as well. this is all just weird and dumb. you are tired of this already. you just sit there and wait for her to wake up. Robot Einnob leaves you alone smiling. she says I'll see you soon. and....

everything was exactly as it appeared!
in this nonsensical world, when the sun went down, there are no stars or moon for light. Day is bright, night is black.
the only questionable thing is why Einnob did not wake up. The cryogenics did not fail, since she was in contact with her robot self... or maybe her robot self only thought she was in contact with her living self, so the cryogenics could have failed and she would never know.
