It's finished...

It's finally finished...

What was declared "impossible", "dangerous" and "foolish", is now turning REAL.

After all these years of work, after all i've lost... It's all worth it, i know it is.

Everything hurts and nothing is beautiful.

You wake up to the roar of a rushing waterfall, tough mountain grass poking into your face and leaving a bitter taste in your mouth, and the general feeling of chilliness one gets from falling asleep completely wet. Or, in your case, being knocked out while completely wet.

How on earth did you get here?

That's actually a very good question. You try to think of something - anything - and you come up blank.

Blank is something you find describes you incredibly well at this point.

You only know four things: You are face-down in the dirt, It's rather chilly, You are an Anathema, and your name is...

Your name is...

What was your name again?

No need. It looks like they've come to talk to me.

As they approach, I hear the last lines of a quiet conversation.

"We shouldn't be doing this, Ree." the larger one says.

"We have to do this. It's been too long since the last one." the thin one says. "Excuse me.. You are a visitor, are you not?" he continues on before I have a chance to respond. "You're the first visitor we've had in a long time. What's happening out there? Tell us." He speaks with authority, as though he's used to such questions being answered.

"I.. I'm not sure." I say, because it's true.

"Damn it all, Ree! I can't believe we risked ourselves on this idiot!" the larger one explodes. "Listen, you. You have to know something. You can't be completely ignorant. Tell us anything. Have the panics stopped? Have the Guides brought any plans to the public? Come on, just say something."

"I'm sorry, I really don't know."

Okay I think we can conclude at this point that the secret project is the Abacus. We need to get purple clearance, eventually, and to do that we need to talk to Amp, Esper, or Fidio. Right now we need some information about the world in general, I think. Ask them about Otarch.

"Could you tell me more about this place? About Otarch?"

Ree seems confused for a moment. Ker scowls. "You want to know about.. Huh." Ree says. "Alright, I suppose. Otarch Research is the emergent center of scientific study on Exethir. It is divided into sections, usually referred to by color. Yellow is generally about civilian applications of things discovered here. Blue is about.. Well, I can't say anything about blue. Not unless you have clearance."

He stares at me with a questioning glance. I don't say anything. He continues. "Purple, too, is highly secret. It mostly is the personal study group of Fidio. Red is completely cut off from the rest of the base. Usually only its leader, Amp, can be found outside of that part of the base. He's friendly enough, I suppose, but he won't say anything about red section, as well he shouldn't. We don't know enough about the Vexing to be flippant about information. Speaking of which.." He coughs. "If there are any other questions I can answer, please put them forth, but if we are seen speaking, there may be trouble. I would like to avoid that. Be brief, please."

Ree and Ker seem to be just barely able to stand still; they continually shoot glances around the room, as if they fear somebody is watching.

You wake slowly, fumbling around in the cold, lonely dark.
As your eyes adjust to the near complete darkness of your present location, a shiver runs down your back, there's a draft coming from somewhere above.

You spy a sliver of weak light somewhere above you.

It's hard to move.

You contemplate possible actions.

You take the SCROLL and KNIFE. Though the knife seems the least useful out of all the tools in here, barely able to spread butter on bread.
>>370079
The GLOVE seems like a bad idea since your experience with the BOX exploding, the fireballs come -from- you, NOT -near- you.

You decide to bring the GLOVE and everything else over to the table however, it looks like it's meant for whatever workshop this is. And the ALCHEMY TABLE does have some bubbling things on it.

SWAIN says the MARIONETTE doesn't look anything like the other ones, this one doesn't move magically.
It has 'hair' and looks to be made out of METAL, not WOOD.

Inspect the bubbling things on the table. It may be of use to us.

As for the seal on the scroll, is it physical or magical? Is it possible for us to break it, as to read the scroll's contents.

Examining the table, you try to convey what you want Swain to focus on, it takes a little while but you kinda manage to tell him few things, using your MINITOME.

You both find out there are lots of MIXTURES on the right side of the table.
The middle has CARVINGS, and the STONE BACKING has a sort of ALCHEMIC MANUAL. Reading the manual (as you don't read this particular language) Swain tells you that seems to be some sort of POISON in one end and a VIGOR potion in another setup. and a third collection, MIXed of the two. He has a bit of trouble understanding the rest as he's no alchemist.
He's a GENTLEMAN ADVENTURER, so at least he can read STANDARD ARCADIAN.

On the left side of the table, however. You ask about those MARIONETTES
Swain notes they are EXACTLY like the DAYTIME marionettes.

He knows the NIGHTTIME ones are different. But not how.

Hmm... so what can we do here? Are the potions already mixed, or is that something we can *make*? If it's already mixed then let's grab the potions we identified.

As for the marionettes, what do they do when moving magically? Just dance around?

Are there any other exits from the room?

About helping Akor, yeah, I think that’s a really good idea. Holn agrees and Akor seems to be perfectly fine with it. We decide that we are going to travel to one of the areas he’s been looking at to try and find somebody that can help us with our dark magic problems. We also decide that we should leave as soon as we can.

He pulls out a map of the continent. There are three cities Akor is considering.

>“Number 1 on the map is Delnr’s Foot, obviously at the foot of Delnr’s Mountain. I wasn’t looking too far into that place before, but time is of the essence now, and the place is close; we’d reach it in the evening. There are rumors of people living isolated in the mountains, some of them devoting their time to the study of dark magic. Most of them probably go mad living there, but ya can imagine the advantage of finding somebody cooperative that knows a lot. The town itself might be a passage to finding somebody like that in those mountains.
>Number 2 is Fersevel. We’d probably get there sometime after nightfall. The area is known for strong mages that might be able to help us. Like I said before, though, ya’d be hard pressed to find one that’d welcome a corrupt person or anything related to dark magic in general. It could be dangerous if we tell somebody about Rolia’s condition and they aren’t happy about it.
>Number 3 is Netfir. It’s home to a well-known college for mages. Of course, they wouldn’t study dark magic, but ya know at le

This isn't suspicious at all!

Anyway, any large medical facility of this sort should have exit signs in all hallways for precisely the purpose of simplifying escape in an emergency. Look for one of those; if it's not visible, go to the nearest corner and repeat, favoring larger hallways.

You are Jake R. Klybek

After waking up and finding yourself in an intensive care unit for what has apparently been years. You find out your battle with 6 didn't go as planned, in fact, he apparently handed your ass to you inside of the crosslinked pocket dimensions. And your arm. Actually your legs too, according to the medical report.

After being stitched back together by the ICU team at the Inter-Galatic Enforcers station, you have been informed that you and your posse (Rori, Nikita, J.D., Azhar and approximately twenty other members of the same group) have bounties that are exceedingly high and have been labeled as highly dangerous to any living organism and there has been a reccommended distance of 3 planets for optimum safety placed on all of your records.

Not to mention they've been ordered to kill all of you.

On sight.

However, since you, Subject 7, and Subject 6, now known across every planet and solar system by his true alias "Glow Worm" apparently destroyed "Five Galaxies in a massive solar blast that was a side effect of your powers both colliding at the same time as a bomb going off." (Which probably crosslinked the pocket dimensions in the first place), You are now the top two most wanted fugatives in any solar system.

Ever.

However, they seem to realize that your skills for tracking him down are uncanny, as your previous encounters were numerous and just as destructive. They strike a deal with you and force you to investigate any leads that may lead to him, who has apparently become the unholy and unrelenting "God of Space".

Just as you contemplate how ethical introducing the irate bunny to my mother would be and right before you can run at the generator full speed and destroy it, you notice the smoke, dust and debris settle as a familiar figure appears, standing in the rubble of the former wall. It begins to move slowly, walking as if many muscles and tendons in it's lower extremities no longer function properly.

As the figure nears, it becomes quite clear who it is as they cackle at you maniacally. It's motherfucking Glow Worm and he is holding (what looks like) the partially intact skull of the mech unit leader. He opens his mouth, letting out a screeching hiss, setting you on your guard and then cackles insanely at your scared reaction. As suddenly as the laughing begins, it ends as he begins to speak.

>Ah, Jake.. As stupid and entertaining as ever, running around and playing your little games and breaking all my toys. Look, you even broke my favorite one of all and his poor sweet face, marred and all flush with fresh radiation. well, since you are here, I'm going to assume that you just love being dragged into the deepest depths of hell. I'm deeply sorry to inform you that you're not going to break that generator, and you're not leaving this place al

Find a bossy figure of androgenic persuasion that is better than you in every mental faculty.

Wait, you're talking about surviving? Glow Motherfucking Worm doesn't look like the brightest humanoid abomination. Unfortunately, you don't find yourself in a better situation. I warned you to enter without being noticed. I told you bro. Anyway, good thing you're using this armor, dreadfully out of fashion, and your attack is flashy as fuck. Time to fake your death. I'm not going to hold your hand this time, however. Figure it out yourself.

Charge in his general direction, but run past him instead of directly at him.

You are a nine year old girl, it's the middle of Friday, and you're
not in school. Normally this would mean you're skipping school, but
this weekend you're going to a hot springs resort with your two best
friends in the entire world. You wouldn't want to skip schools anyway,
unless your friends were to do so as well.

You really like your friends, but lately you've been worrying about
them. Well, really just one of them; she was recently beaten up by
someone. It wasn't obvious, but you could tell; she's never that
careful moving, and you could see her wince when she sat down. She
refuses to say who, though. Even when she's in school, she spends
most of her time staring into air, and she never seems to have time to
play anymore. Whoever did this to her, you want to punch them! It
makes you so mad.. but Suzuka is right, you can't force her to
talk. Can you?

All right, all right. Change that second part to "Will you help me help Nanoha?" or something. What >>369136 said is good too.

I'm flying back from Mountain View to Dublin in a few hours, so no update today.

Instead, extra large update tomorrow, probably taking us all the way to the, hm, more interesting events of the hot spring - I'll have plenty of time to write on the plane.

From there on there won't be many opportunities to timeskip, I don't think, so you should enjoy this one. :P

I'm caught in an eternal recursion of jet lag.

I’m hereby declaring Alice to be 110 cm tall. Pint-sized, in
other words; at the 2nd percentile of height for her age. This will
never come up again.

[X] The best defense is a good offense. Claim you’ll help Nanoha no
matter what. Ask them to help you, not vice versa.

“Arisa. How much did you hear?”

Thinking quickly, you change your position so you’re now stretched out
on the floor, propping your head up with your left arm. Standing up,
you’re just some kid - it’s a point of annoyance with you that you
barely reach up to the waist of most people - but in this position

Well, go and start packing. Try to plot your way so as to maximize chances of bumping into Nanoha, and subsequently asking her to come along with you.

This is a prelude/intro to a quest that I'm planning to do in the coming months. Please excuse the somewhat inferior art! I don't have a true tablet, per se, but will have one in time for the true start of the quest. Comments and criticisms are appreciated!

Widde: "Yeah, okay go do whatev-- W-what the fuck did you just say?"
Rote: "kkhh-- hahaha"

You fly up high enough to get a mostly unobstructed view of the floodplain. A river flows only a few dozen yards away, on the other side of a gentle slope. Behind you is the forest that you recently emerged from. The floodplain is bare of large vegetation apart from prairie grass and a few shrubs. There is only a few minutes left until the sun sets completely.

Below you, Darren has almost reached the top of the Fleurid. Widde and Rote are arguing.

This quest is now on hiatus. As of late, I have been subject to numerous migraines and other maladies combined with a very stressful schedule and environment that have made writing and drawing very difficult. Clockwork Bird will return in a few weeks. In the meantime, I might start running a less effort-intensive quest. Thank you for understanding.

Let's go down and see what the heck they're arguing about.

Maybe try to keep them from killing eachother for no good reason.
