"Oh...I suppose that would make me upset, too. The river is kind of her home."

The centaur snorts impatiently.

"Gimme that jar." She snatches it from your hands and downs the entire thing in a few seconds. "Hm. That's good water."

"Glad you like it..." The bee girl turns to you. "My name's Zozo, by the way! And that's Fern. Um, if you want we can give you a ride to the village! I'm from a colony of bees so we usually bring our honey since it's quite popular there!"

"Eh, fine. I respect any person who can stand up to bitchy water ghouls."

The response surprises you, but you eagerly clamber onto Fern's back. Zozo is visibly shocked. You all ride off together, Fern snorting in annoyance every once in a while.

It took about 4 hours to reach the village. Your butt was extremely sore, but you feel that the experience allowed you and Fern to bond...sorta.

"Me and Fern are going to head to the Trading post. You wanna come with? If not there's an Inn right here and plenty of places around to investigate!"

You notice the cat woman walking away and are tempted to say hello...but you decide that exploring the village is more important right now. You follow Zozo and Fern to the trading post. As you get closer, the crowds of people become more apparent. Soon it's extraordinarily busy, with various monsterkin screaming and yelling in all directions.

Your friends pull up to an empty stand and begin to unload their stock. You help as much as you can before Zozo allows you to meander on your own. After a bit a certain stand draws you in. The owner is selling various burnt wood pictures. Intricately crafted and pleasing to the eye.

"Do you like what you see, fox?"

You turn around and see a hooded figure sitting at a table.

She opens up the flap to her tent and shoos you outside. Yobi then leads you away from the trading post to a tiny field nearby.

"This should do. Yes. Now, the most basic spell foxes need to learn is their fire. We're nothing without a bit of fire magic."

She conjures up a tiny blue ball of flames.

"What do you use them for, Yobi?"

"Light, mostly. It creates dramatic effect. But it's also useful for burning possible opponents. Foxes are naturally immune to fox fire, normal fire? Not so much. Just try and concentrate energy into the palm of your hand. See if that works."

Um, if I'm like super full of lots of magic from the extra tails, my little fire won't be really big, right? I don't want to burn down the forest or something.

You don't think that trying to make a huge fire all at once is a good idea. You start out with a small flame, whispering "Nyaaaa." as you do it. This causes Yobi to raise an eyebrow at you, but she doesn't question it.

A tiny spark begins to flare off in your hand, then a small fireball.

"Ah, now you're getting it."

You begin to giggle, getting excited about your new achievement. The flame suddenly begins to maniacally burst forth, causing you to scream.

That's right. It can't hurt you. You calmly look over at Yobi, frowning.

"H-How do I make it stop! What do I do?!" She smiled warmly at you.

"Just calm down. The key to magic is concentration. Just will it to go away. Spread your energy evenly across your body."

You squeeze your eyes shut and let your arms relax, the flames disappearing almost instantly.

"There you go. I must say, little one, you have quite a bit of pent up energy. I wonder where you get it from."

Yobi sat down on the grass, motioning with her hands.

"See if you can create floating flames. Ones you don't have to control manually. Concentrate your power onto a spot in the air, and snap your fingers."

Good, we didn't burn the forest down.

You snap your fingers in a zig-zag pattern, three balls of fire popping into thin air. You gasp out in excitement, and attempt to juggle them. They all explode in your face.

"I wouldn't advise doing that until you have better control."

well, you got something, lets try the basic instead. simple snap.

Try batting them away before they explode in your face, this time. And make them bigger!

Siiiiigh. Okay.

Snap once. Watch what it does. If it doesn't explode, snap again.

Ok, this time just make one. Then practice making it float around you in quick bursts. Once you've practiced that repeat while saying "Hey!' and 'Listen!' in the most annoying way possible.

Make one and stuff it down your clothes. See if you can keep it from burning anything but air.
