It's understandable that Kar would be worried for Liz. It's probably because she's only got one arm and he doesn't want her to get hurt again.

Or maybe the last time Liz wanted to do something like this and Kar didn't stop her, she ended up losing her arm and he doesn't want that to happen again.

My opinion was that no one in your group should interact with this gang on this first expedition. This is supposed to be a scout mission to guide more violence apt but lazy authorities in the rescue of a little girl.
Honest I would prefer that you did that alone, but since you want company the scouting plan should help with Kar's worries.

I hope it stays as just a scouting mission for now too. Heck I hope we can get her back without nobody being hurt at all.

Anyway.

Tos and I head into the tent and sit down, Tos is still a bit shaken and is breathing pretty heavily.

I'm normally in disagreement with the hug obsession most of us have, but in this case it's probable a sensible course of action.
Sit next to him, hug his shoulders in comforting manner and tell nothing bad will happen, his friend will eventually calm down. Do what you can to maintain his focus on you and not at the discussion.
Tos reaction isn't normal. To be this shaken he must have some sort of trauma, a deep fear associated with the disagreement of those close to him. Whatever it is you will have to wait for a more peaceful circumstance to ask.

When you get his attention complement the soup, ask about his day, about the camp, places he visited, friends he met... whatever conversation topic you can use to maintain his focus away from the conflict.

At first it may seem like you failed to cheer Tos, but you actually succeeded to bring him to a rational state of mind. This mean you can argue with his reasoning instead of treating him like a child.
You don't know them all that well, you know much less about Kar than you know about Liz and you don't understand very well the nature of their conflict. At this point you can't vouch to solve this conflict, but if Tos or someone else explain the details you can try to talk to them.
Regardless do not sell false hopes. Tos need to understand that even friendships fall apart and if this happen he will need to accept.

Go back and tell them that regardless of actions they decide to pick there's no way any of this is going to work. If you make Lizzie stay here, do you really think she's going to stay here? And does Lizzie seriously believe she can handle an offensive position? There is no point in arguing about the situation at hand because it isn't going to change jack shit. If anything they should assess the situation from a stealth perspective.

I still think you should go alone. The least amount of people the less likely you will be of been spotted. Beside, what help will the kobolds be in a fight against a gnoll gang?
Regardless I trust Tos to be able behave and do what he can to not be seen by dangerous criminals. No one will be happy with this course of actions, but if you and Tos leave Liz will have the opportunity of experiencing Kar's point of view.

Leaving this conflict to it's natural development may not be ideal, but you already prove yourself to be too cowardly to interfere.
I already made my case of what I think you should do. If you don't want to deal with their problems and don't want to leave I don't know what to tell you. Maybe you should give a chance to the masturbation and blowjob suggestions in this case.

It's important to not look afraid right now.

Be blunt, ask why he's against letting her go through the mission tomorrow. She handled the situation well so far. And looks better in tracking and combat than Tos. Ask why does he think she'll ruin it. The mission is just a reconnaissance, ideally there shouldn't even a fight in the first place. If he's really intransigent, offer to go with her (or him) instead.

If he doesn't shut down for further questions you could then ask about their relationship. Thing is, you don't really know much about it so you don't know which questions to make. So make a simple question this behavior: ask him why do they argue with each other so often. Warn him that it stresses Tos.

I think I have some insight into scenarios like this due to experience. Both sides aren't wrong and never settle their differences. Both sides don't back down and compromise is never performed. You can try meeting separately with both people to gather info or whatever. Here is a few things to consider:

1. Kar does not trust Lizzie to leave and come back, this is why this conflict was brought up when Lizzie got back. I would not be surprised if Lizzie had a sub-motive/motive when you and her left, and she might of known they were already making food. This is why Kar refuses to let Lizzie leave like this.

2. Both sides have valid concerns, at least for this. Overprotectiveness doesn't apply considering there is a valid (but small, for this scenario) risk for people who go out heroically, even if its only for a scouting mission. What Kar's motive is that he values Lizzie more than Greg's daughter, and either A: doesn't trust Lizzie to handle something like this, B: doesn't want to lose her in overprotectiveness (commonly shown in war veterans due to loss of friends), C: Both, or D: Something else, as we don't know much. For all you know, Lizzie has some disability that makes stuff like this hard or something.

I recommend to move onto Lizzie, and go back to Kar later, assuming nothing comes up/something big revelation is revealed. Give Kar some time to think or something, he seems to be thinking considering his failure to respond. Turn to leave.

I look for Lizzie, but can't find her anywhere. I ask Tos and he points towards outside the camp. Lizzie's tent is a little separated from everyone else's, makes sense being the only girl. Barging into her tent might not be a good idea, so...

Wait a second, is she even in the tent? She didn't left, did she? If you have a lantern light the tent ant try to see her silhouette. If you can't be sure she is there then first put your hand inside and see if there's a reaction. If not, take a peek.

Better off staying in camp. He can fend himself and it looks like he knows where he's going. Pester Tos because you're still too anxious. Check if he's coping well, maybe ask for a bit more info about this conflict if these questions don't upset him.

I don't think telling Kar was a good idea. Because her stuff was there, she was planning to go back soon, maybe before he even noticed her absence. Now, whether he finds her or not, he will feel his fears vindicated and will be even more intransigent than before. Also more quarreling with her at earliest opportunity.

If there's someone out here I am not going to check SHIT.

Wait. Wait! Running might be a good idea, I think I got it. I go over to Tos.

Sam:"Tos. If you had to leave here in a hurry, do you know how to get out of the forest?

Tos:"I- I go out a lot sometimes for food, but it's during the daytime? I think I can. Sam what's wrong?"

Sam:"There's.. someone here and they have the cleaver.
Worry forms in his face and I can tell now he's just as scared as I am.

Are we doing this?

Do we have a choice? Better to do it than live with the fear of it...

Yes you will, drag Tos with you if you have to, don't be a pussy.

>Are we doing this?
Are you sure running through the forest in panic is better than staying where you are? I thinks you are better off looking for anything threatening using your campfire as a light source. Can you really see or hear anything suspect? Are you sure you are not freaking out for nothing?

Nope! looks like a scary jester.

Hide back in the tent. Don't call out to it. we don't know if it is friend or foe. If it comes towards the tent, escape towards the back.

Sam:"Tos. There is someone out there, we need to run."

Tos:"What! Who is it?!"

Sam:"I've no idea, but we have to get the hell out of here!"

Tos"What about Kar and Lizzie?"

Try to run away without being noticed, because if you get noticed you may get cleaved in the back. Also, we here can't triangulate a position where you could run off, turn a specific amount of degrees, and follow the route due to the lack of a end position and one length.

In more simple terms, we may be able to work something out with more information, but otherwise run.

Just tell him what is going on, Liz wasn't in her tetn, and Kar went to look for her. You're confident that Kar is strong enough to fend for himself, but you too have got to sneak out.

Good friends shouldn't keep secrets, right? otherwise it will bite ya in the ass later.

Sam:"Lizzie wasn't in her tent, Kar went to look for her."

Tos:"Where'd they go?!"

Sam:"I don't know but if this person is here then they're probably safe! We need to go!"

I peek out, still silent, nobody on this side, looks like now's the chance!

...Where do we go once we're actually out?

Somewhere close to the camp in case Kar comes back, but far enough away to not be seen. Can you guys climb a tree, or hide in those bushes?

Write something in a note or in the dirt, something Liz/Kar could see. A short message like "Invaded. We fled".

As for where to go, any landmark near? Any place where you can sleep? The city is the safest place because of the guards. Just flee towards a path and ask Tos on the way, its faster.

Good idea. I grab a stick from the floor and hastefully spell out a message in the dirt, hopefully it stays there.

After a while, we exit the forest and soon enough we're back at the town entrance, but this time nobody's here. Shit.

At the very least, we are out of the forest. There are no plantlife to conceal any bandits. And if a person who means harm doea come, you can scream for help. Those chimneys have smoke coming out, so they can hear your cries for help if it comes to that.

In the meantime, take a breather. Look towards the forest to see if anyone followed you both.

I walk up to the big door and knock; an unfamiliar voice responds.

???:"Noone is allowed in until the next morning."

Sam:"Please! We got an emergency here!"

Ask if they can let a guard OUT to protect you from some spooky guy who stole your only weapon.

Sounds fair. If not, maybe you two will have to sleep here? if that is the case, we'll keep watch while you guys snooze. we'll yell if something suspicious comes up.

Though I'm hoping they let a guard out so we don't have to do that...
