So here you have a thread about a quest that just started and probably has nothing to discuss about yet...

So, why open it? The right question would be WHY NOT? Curiosities, criticism, general feedback as well as other sweet little treats and everything that regards Pink Quest goes straight in here!

Also, for those who were wondering, that in the picture is my "project tablet" right next to my work desk. All the papers hanging on it (or most of them) are concepts and ideas for the story. I thought it would make a perfect picture for this thread.

Thanks for all the support you've shown so far, I hope you're having as much fun as I am but, most importantly, I hope you'll keep having it with future updates.

I think you could have gotten away with just
1-4, 1-7, 1-10, 1-13, and 1-16 for a net savings of nine images.

Your art and faces are lovely by the way.

I went through the combination you suggested and... Wow you're right! This tells me a LOT about how excessive I am when it comes to explaining a scene through pictures. It works very well as an example and I will use it as reference from now on, thanks a lot for the feedback, man!

Also, thanks a lot, I do my best! I love drawing, which is probably why I do it more than writing, and hearing someone enjoys it really makes it worth the while.

If you have anything else to say don't hold back, I'll be listening, whether I agree or not.

I really like all the crazy expressions
everything is very well drawn I think

Many talented artists around here seem to burn out the quickest from putting to much into the updates, as much as it pains me to see less great pictures lightening the image load will probably help with the quest's longevity

No. 103430 ID: 3a6aeb

>>103428
I feel like it definitely will. I don't want to leave this story too early on and, if possible, when I do leave it I wish for it to be already deep enough into the narration to allow me to make an actual ending.

So, yeah, I'll make less heavy updates with more writing and less pictures, unless it's REALLY necessary.
>>
No. 103431 ID: 180f83

this quest is pretty great so far. Love the artwork. can't wait to see where this story heads to in the future.

Also, you don't need to rush on making updates. there are some authors here that only update once every 1-2 weeks. You can take your time if you need it :).

Lastly, I was wondering if you have a place that showcases you artwork somewhere, like a tumblr page?

Hmmm, I think I would have left 1-6 in. Plus showing the nest on the ground would be important for a suggester cue.

>>103431

Thanks a lot men, all these suggestions are turning out to be very useful. It truly helps me to think deeper about what to do next to simply take my time and make more light updates.

And, no, unfortunately I'm not posting stuff around yet. But, after your post, I was thinking to maybe open a tumblr and other galleries too.

>>103438

Sorry if I ask, but I think it would be least helpful not to: what do you mean with suggester cue?
>>
No. 103462 ID: 398fe1

>>103461
Well I mean if we didn't see the nest on the ground, we would've thought it was still in the tree and thus it was not available as something to mess with further (by throwing eggs or whatever). Even if it's not intended to be a solution it's nice to have the extra situational awareness.
>>
No. 103464 ID: 398fe1

...on the other hand if you want, you can leave stuff like that out, to cut down on possible red herrings suggesters latch onto.

And I updated again. It's small and simple, but I'm trying to find the right balance between text and pics. I'm also trying to use all of the useful advice you kindly gave me ^v^

Again, thanks a lot for the support!

Updated again but... I have a few questions for you guys:

Is there anyway to easily edit older posts? I have done some horrible writing I'd like to fix. Plus the site, sometimes, seems to start new paragraphs without me wanting it >_> This happens especially when I copy paste text from other programs.

But most importantly: I'M SO SORRY! Not only because it's taking me so much to update but also because I feel like this story is so confusing! I started it from the wrong spot and, I don't know, I just don't feel like I have a full grasp of the situation like I did in Donkey quest.

For some reason I'm always confused when I'm about to make a new post, where in DQ it didn't take much effort and I always felt incredibly inspired with each picture.

I hope you're still enjoying this and I hope to get better at it. I know I have a few ideas I want to see come into fruition and I know I don't want to drop this only because it seems hard.

If you have any advice, please give me! I'm struggling between a bad english, a few things about the site I don't understand (my fault) and my inability to let it go XD

>If you have any advice, please give me!
With these big, multi panel updates, one thing that helps is an indication when they're finished, so readers known when to start responding.

Two common ways of doing this are to number posts (1/n, 2/n, ... n/n) or to just put a prompt at the end of the last post asking for input. (">What do", ">_", etc).

>I kind of miss updating Donkey quest
If you want to bring an older quest back, you're allowed to do that. Just ask a mod to pull the thread out of the graveyard and it's yours to update again.

If it is absolutely crucial* (and it's too late to delete/reupload), you can report the post explaining what needs changing. You can also ask for image replacements (report post, and give a link to the new image). Just mind that any changes might take awhile to happen.

*'Absolutely crucial' means a huge error that will significantly confuse/mislead the reader, and not just a grammatical hiccup or weird looking cloud in the sky. Please let it stand if it's just noticeable but decipherable grammar errors, improvable writing blocks, or things of similar caliber.

Hello guys, I'm dropping by to say thanks to you all. I read the messages the day after I posted my doubts and there are no other words to say it: you warmed up my hard and made my morning ten times better.

I'm still planning to post on Pink quest (I actually can't wait to make the update) and I'm also encouraged to open a Tumblr for you to keep track of my stuff, so that I can post my experiments (both successful and failure) and get a direct feedback from such sweet peeps as you.

Thanks a lot for the support, I hope to have everything ready for the next update <3

Indeed! I finally made it. I was busy with the comic school and other things (had to push homeworks away to post here >_>") but fuck the planet, I didn't want to keep the quest dead no longer.

OH! Also, admins pleeease can you delete the posts you see in the picture? They get in the way of the narration since I reposted them (with better writing) later. Had a few friends reading the quest and they found it a bit odd.

So... Pretty please çvç ?

So that's a much thicker, more resistent ankle for our gal. It's better like this, isn't it? A true shame I noticed the mistake just after posting it, right? Man, this site is merciless sometimes. Once you put something out there's no way to fix it, you just have to roll with whatever silly typo or bad drawing you just made. But that's the magic of it I guess. It's also why I joined in the first place after all, to train my narratives, improvvisation and English. And the fact you have to think well before you post because otherwise you're doomed to live with your awful, awful mistakes make you much more careful.

But anyhow: as I said I'm working on a background for the quest and also commissions and also school so, in order to slalom through them, I won't be able to post for a while (hope not too much). Not to talk about the fact I'm also trying to make accounts on twitter tumblr and the likes (since one of you asked for them) so that I can post my puny drawings and link you there if you're interested.

But in the meantime here's a question for you guys:

I'm also interested in making a youtube account. In this channel I'd put let's plays, reviews (or rather opinions, I'm not skilled enough to review anything) and all the silly stuff you'd normalle hate in a channel. But along with that I was thinking to both make a drawn series (kind of animatic-like, with a very simple style) and videos with me drawing stuff, even showing the quest from time to time maybe. If this project came to life, would you be interested at all? If so what would you like to find on a silly pasta, pizza channel about an italian ravioli "draw guy" (can't call myself an artist as of yet).

Let me know! Any advice or feedback is veeeery appreciated.

Don't worry, I'm totes chill! I just like to joke around my mistakes a lot, I use it as away to both acknowledge and deal with them, so that I can let it go!

And I know it seems I'm taking this too seriously but... I love doing it! It makes me feel like I'm running a little animation business kind of like Disney before the renaissance! Where everything is very small and cheap (and not so magic either) but still they manage to make their craft look fantastic <3

It's kind of like playing a game with myself! Except you're all involved.

>>106356

Thanks a lot man, I appreciate you thinking I have a craft of some kind XD JK, I know I can get somewhere with these silly drawings.

And yes I'll soon open new accounts on which I plan to post lots of things, even the ugliest of sketches, some pages from my sketch-book too and other updates. I'll link you to them as soon as they're open, if you're interested ^^

Sure sure.
First is Mark Crilly https://www.youtube.com/user/markcrilley
I like some of his more realistic how to draws, and he has some advice on how to arrange panels, make backgrounds, do actions scenes, pretty much every bit(he's got hundreds of videos) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tPW4FA0FMs&index=4&list=PLBiW8y5LSHK4ajygBf6GBYC5KLBenvkaI He made a published comic called Brody's ghost which he refers back to for some stuff.

Next is Jess the Dragoon. https://www.youtube.com/user/JessTheDragoon
Dude makes animations that remind me of what I used to watch on newgrounds.

Next is David Razi https://www.youtube.com/user/Raziberry
His stuff is more telling stories from his past with visuals.

After that Vizziepop https://www.youtube.com/user/SpindleHorse
I like how her characters pop/their colors. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAHicQxO90Q She also makes a webcomic. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wDRegz2qQPU to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQCzqlMmpPg when it's finished)

I follow Sambaka https://www.youtube.com/user/amalloc because I loved his There She Is series, and I backed him on kickstarter to make a new episode so I want to keep up to date on his stuff.

I watch some of Carbot's Stuff https://www.youtube.com/user/CarbotAnimations because I like how things move in his animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrpLDrXK-hc

It's a little bit shallow, but I really follow Betsy Lee/Warlord of noodles https://www.youtube.com/user/LadyCelest Mainly because I heard a couple of her singing things and her voice stuck with me, (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlRAhlB4BVg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXnJmh2VVyI) but her See No Evil series is pretty good. Gotta watch it from the start though. She also streams her art-ing stuff sometimes.

Lastly is Sun Creatures Studios. https://www.youtube.com/user/SunCreatureStudio
They made The reward https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cw7aAFS5oc and The First Hero https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DUlg8Y_mLfA. They made an awesome world and have been adding some things to it. The most relevant one is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fErhXM3lmow&t=0m25s They made a choose your own adventure animaic that let their viewers explore the world/choose where to go. They have kept this up with other characters(kickstarter people got to vote on which characters to follow) but they are closer to actual animations now than animaics. Keep in mind this is multiple people, and they have money backing from kickstarter at this point. They also have some voice people and music people. Don't try to keep up with them.

I didn't have as many 'how to' ones as I thought I did; wish I could remember which one had that video on dynamism in art(how to make pictures look like they are actually in motion/still from a scene based off of poses, balance and such. I have a few more I follow for just animations, but there isn't anything different about them.
>>
No. 106377 ID: da0f4f

>>106376

Woah thanks a LOT. All of this stuff is not only interesting but incredibly useful! I still have to watch through all of it but I'll definitely do. Some of these things I can't even just have as a background, they're so good I just have to watch and... Well... Try myself!

Sorry, I have to ask, seeing how many of these artists you're following is it possible that you too draw? If so link me somewhere please, I'd be most glad to check your stuff out.
>>
No. 106378 ID: 188451

>>106377
You're welcome on it. And as for being an artist myself, I'm not one. I've always been interested in it; I've looked up loads of stuff for it(including musculature/range of motion/skeletal structure in humans and a couple animals, how to-s, effects/shading tutorials), taken a couple of art classes, and I draw occasionally; but I've never actually been any good at drawing. I know if I practice a lot I can get to okayish. (I've spent a *lot* of hours pouring over tutorials, pictures, skeletal models, and actually trying to draw foxes because they are my favorite animal; and I am almost mediocre at it. I actually can and have snow sculpted *and* wood carved a better looking fox than the best of what I can draw. So I know if I tried drawing/looking into other stuff as much as foxes I'd probably be up to mediocre at them too.)
It's just moderately discouraging to have my hand not do what my mind says, and I have enough trouble with motivation as is that I shouldn't waste it on failing to draw the same thing over and over. I'll still keep trying occasionally, but maybe I just don't have an eye/hand for drawing. It's a shame too, cause a decent number of my friends are pretty good at it.

You could integrate your Lets Plays with the quest. Set up different scenarios in sandbox mode and then play them in the game to determine how well our pink heroine does in the story.

Or maybe WE could do it for you...

Seriously, keep trying, and even if you actually suck at it... Do it! I don't see why not. People who wasn't able to draw made tons of people happy even while not actually being good! Look at the first TNT comics, the art was bad, there was nearly 0 composition, but people loved the hell out of it because of its HEART. You just have to find your way to express it.

Hell I'm not good at drawing, I'm only decent at cartoons, yet here I am. Because I have fun! You should have fun too without feeling guilty about it. Self aware, sure, but not guilty. If you like something you just do it, trust me, it relaxes you and vent the stress.

Of course it's up to you. But in any case, that fox is for you and your creative spirit, don't let it die out ^v^ And again, thanks for the wonderful vids. Me and my girl are enjoying the hell out of'em!

Well, an example would be:

You come to a fork in the road. Which way do you choose, left or right?

Kome will choose the color purple and give a reason why it's a good idea to choose purple.

That's more or less Kome every time he suggests something. Every once and a while, he'll give a serious answer, but those times are pretty rare.

Don't be mean to kome, he isn't a troll. He just approaches problems in a unique way that is often confusing, but occasionally insightful.

In your example he'd be more likely to suggest going back the way we came based on some esoteric line of reasoning founded on wild assumptions seemingly pulled from nowhere.

Because kome has a beautiful mind which we mortals cannot fully comprehend.

Uh, like... From where they come from and such? That'd be of help to me too actually, as I'd be able to explain stuff about the setting that I wouldn't be able to freely spell out in the narration.

I tried to in a pair of posts but it just felt so cringy! When I made a pair of names (Hans and Sarabella) that you never heard before XD That felt kind of out of place.

Totes going to do that. Is there a specific way you'd like to see that done? Or maybe something you'd be really curious to know?
