jen, the halfbold mechanic of this airship, rigged the engine to blow when she leaves in one of the smaller ships...

In addition to clothes, ask for workshop materials if you need them.

Welding tools to repair the holes in the hull, and some wiring and stuff to make modifications to the armament, eventually it would be good to strap some sticks to this clunker.

Lets definitely buy that shopbot and a workshop. That closet as well. It could be usefull for disguises and things.

And Now, a little Story…

Before the great war, the CGA (Central Government Agency), was just a little empire in the center of the galaxy, it was pacific and for this, all the other empires used it as neutral ground to discuss and pact…
… war was a common and in the borders of each empire skirmishes were fought everyday, until one of these conflicts escalated to a full scale war between the MNCROME empire and the SPECTRUM empire, the MNCROME had the upper hand due to rich metal deposit and superior spaceships, so the SPECTRUM decided to use a terrible invention… in a coordinated strike, massively armored ships gated in each of the systems controlled by the MNCROME and collided with the stars that sustained each of them, bombs installed inside each ship were designed to destabilize the stars and make them explode, the strike was a success and the once powerful MNCROME empire was reduced to lifeless asteroid fields…

It was then when the CGA pushed to stop war and to form a regulator army that could interfere in these conflicts, each empire sent veteran warriors to form this CGA army, and so the Veteran Government Agency (VGA) was born, what the other empires didn’t expected was the total brainwash of the people they sent, the CGA grew in power and became the only ruling empire in the galaxy, they expanded the are a they controlled and created the EGA (External Government Agency) out of the rest of the empires (Adlib, Gravis, Spectrum, and a multitude of smaller ones)

The tech level is very advanced, personal shields are common, laser and plasma weapons are the most used, warfare is mostly done in space with large capital ships, planet defense forces are allowed to have weapons, warp gates and jump technology is available for armies, while normal ships have sub-light and sub-space engines.

Humans are the most extended race, followed by Adlib’s elves and Gravis Dwarves, by CGA orders, anything else is a slave…

Lets worry about finding a ship first…
According to happybot, there are 3 hulls that doesn’t require too much work to be up and running
Ram ship (MNCROME) [1000C + 500C extra engine]
A Combat Frigate(ADLIB)[3000C + 1500C extra engines], this ship is build around a low firing speed high energy laser, almost no cargo space…
And a Miner Ship (GRAVIS)[2000C + 1500C extra engines], lots of cargo space + small construction facility

But.. but... starting a mining operation is not how you have an exciting game of Traveler. You have to like, go places and see stuff. Sitting around waiting for excitement to come find your asteroid mining operation out in space is an exercise in defend-the-castle and one-mistake-and-we-all-die adventuring.

I'd prefer the ramship, but mostly I vote anything BUT the mining hull.
>>
No. 33877 ID: 06fc25

I think the idea is to use mining as a temporary measure until Jen and company figure out what they want to do. Flying around at random doesn't earn credits or put food on the table, after all.

And it's safer than going mercenary. These ladies have given no indication that they possess military training

Not flying around randomly, flying around delivering trade goods, passengers, possibly smuggling, possibly doing side quests when we land. Adventure!

I suppose one of the reasons I like the ramship is that it was described as an empty hull we could build up into anything we needed. If this is also true of the mining ship, I maybe don't hate it so much, but it is STILL less armored and a much bigger dent in our funds.

I vote the Frigate.
It doesn't cost 3/4 of our money like the mining ship, and it has amenities, unlike the ramship.
The ship should do for a few trips and raising money; we don't need to leave the planet yet.
Once we have enough money, it should be a simple task to purchase multiple ships.

Voltron-style sheinanigans may come later.

Given that we have extremely limited combat experience, but require money to survive, our income will probably almost entirely consist of finding things to sell. Therefore, cargo space is a must.

The Mining Ship it is!
[1280C remaining]
After you buy it and the engines arrive you have a new ship to call home, according to the ex-owner, there are some space spores inside, but nothing of a problem, the computer on the construction area has these schematics ready for building when you have the material:

[miner drone, combat drone, guard robot, long range scout]

The living quarters are huge and can carry up to 100 people, the ship has sub-space travel, but you cannot use that inside the asteroids here…

The only warning that he gives you is to not try to mine asteroids that are being already mined… unless you have a clocking device… which by casualty he also sells [700C]

There are also schematics for sale for different types of things you can build…

Now, what should we buy?

Lets see what kind of schematics are offered before deciding on the cloaking device.

We are looking for both external ship armaments and internal sentry turret style defensive measures (flamethrower ones might be fairly easy to make, and could be mounted around all the doors as a strong first line of defense[could even rig them to draw from ship fuel to make them more autonomous]). Lets also ask if they have designs for superior/wider application fabrication devices, with promises to sell a large deal of new constructs to him at low rates? Guaranteed good deals are always a plus to a merchant.

There are various fighters and escort ships, both manned and unmanned, ranging form [50C] the most basic to [1000C] a medium fighter
There are various ship weapons small lasers [300C] missile [500C] and cannon [400C]
Remember that these are just the schemes, we need material to build them…

Slaves are cheap… and mostly depend on what they can do… but what is most important now is to get food!

We can either buy a hydrofarm, for [100C], but we will need lots of people running it…
Or a automated farm, for [300C]

I got the price of the cloak device down to [400C] because the ship has to be almost stopped for it to work and any military ship sensors will see us as clear as day… :/

What do space spores do? Kill things?

You should probably destroy them all with your "sticks" before they become a problem.

Also buying slaves means that they will be treated much more nicely by you than whoever they would otherwise have been purchased by, so it's not a bad idea entirely.
>>
No. 33961 ID: 1689ab

Space spores just rest in places until they find some food, then they use it to create more space spores, and repeat… they are not harmful…

This ship has several weapon mount points, and automated robots can install weapons if we have them, they are controlled from the bridge, and we have a weapon system operator :3

So, we buy the cloak device, the auto-farm and 200C worth of slaves…
